Dave Bautista’s desire to star in Netflix’s planned Gears of War film is no secret. However, despite his open declaration for wanting to be in it, he says Netflix has not reached out to him at all.
Speaking to Variety, Bautista said that although he has been open about his desires for the role of Marcus Fenix, there’s been nothing new to update fans on. However, although Netflix hasn’t reached out to the actor yet, Bautista said he is confident he would do the role justice, and hopes to be able talk about it soon.
“I really hope they will,” Bautista said. “It’s a part that I’ve sought after for years and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would. I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully it’ll come my way and we’ll be having this conversation in a different way sometime.”
For Bautista, the role of Fenix has been something he’s been trying to get for some time now. He told GameSpot in 2018 that it would be a “dream role” and tweeted the following year that he had tried everything in his power to get it to happen. Bautista continued this campaign in 2021 by telling Collider that he had a meeting with Universal to speak about The Fast and the Furious, but actually turned down a role in the iconic franchise, instead asking about how to make a Gears of War film happen.
“They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said ‘I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix,’” Bautista said in the interview. Although his pleas have fallen on deaf ears in the past, it seems like he has never given up hope of landing his ideal role.
