As the start of production nears for the new Safdie Brothers movie, the directing duo has reportedly cast Steve Harvey in an unknown role.

According to World of Reel, Harvey (Family Feud) is the latest name to be added to a star-studded cast that reportedly includes Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck, and Megan Thee Stallion.

World of Reel also brings plot details for the secretive project, which revolves around the world of sports memorabilia. “Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting in the 1990s, a retired Baseball pitcher (Affleck) attempts a comeback as a sports memorabilia agent (Sandler) attempts to capitalize on his success,” the plot details read. “Megan Thee Stallion is said to play Affleck’s girlfriend.”

Josh and Benny Safdie are set to write, produce, and direct the untitled film, with Sandler attached as the star. The report states that the goal was to start production in July and for shooting to wrap around September. The film is in development at Netflix.

The film reunites the Safdie Brothers with Sandler, who previously collaborated on 2019’s Uncut Gems, named one of the top ten films of 2019 by the National Board of Review. For their work on Uncut Gems, the Safdie Brothers won Best Director, and Sandler won Best Male Lead at the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards.

This new project continues a recent run of projects from Sandler set in the world of sports. After starring as a sports gambling addict in Uncut Gems, Sandler starred as an NBA scout in 2022’s Hustle. The veteran actor received positive reviews for his performance, resulting in a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.

The Safdie Brothers have not made a film since Uncut Gems. However, the duo has been working on Showtime’s The Curse, an upcoming comedy television series starring Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone about a problematic HGTV show. Benny co-created the show with Fielder and will star in the project, while Josh will executive produce.
