According to separate reports from VGC and Jeff Grubb, Rare has gone back to the drawing board with their original IP Everwild.

After being shown at last year’s Microsoft E3 event and at XO19 in November 2019, it was widely expected that the stunning-looking title would get at least a little screen time during this year’s Microsoft showcase. However, that wasn’t the case. Conspicuous by its absence, it appears that the game has been taken all the way back to square one as development has been rebooted.

Rare creative director Simon Woodroffe departed the company last year, and that has apparently led to a full overhaul of Everwild. Given that the game was reportedly in development for several years ahead of its reveal, that could mean that we don’t see hide nor hair of it for a good while yet.

The word on the street is that Rare was having trouble defining a clear direction for the game’s structure, flip-flopping between making a third-person adventure and a combat-free god game. After putting experienced designed Gregg Mayles in place to head up the development team, Rare is hoping for a 2024 release.
