The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan plays Mickey in Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ romantic drama Monday, which is now available in select theaters and video on demand. Stan explained that he was attracted to the project due to its realistic portrayal of romance while talking to ComingSoon.net.

“I always loved those Richard Linklater movies, and I loved [director] Argyris’ previous film Suntan,” Stan told ComingSoon.net when asked about what attracted him to the project. “I watch foreign movies sometimes more than U.S. Films actually because I don’t know. I just love movies that deal with the realism of relationships and how messy they are. How people really get to know each other. I love that this movie wasn’t trying to hand you an ending in a bow like some romantic comedy of some sort. It was very realistic. You’re a spectator for some time of these two people meeting.”

Co-written by screenwriter-playwright Rob Hayes (This Will End Badly) and Greek director Papadimitropoulos (Suntan), Monday is a classy-looking film centered on Chloe and Mickey, two self-destructive Americans living across Athens and the Greek islands, who get involved in an intense romance. When Chloe’s time in Greece is drawing to a close, she decides to give up her high-flying job back home and explore whether one weekend’s passion can stand the reality of the inevitable Monday.

The film is produced by Christos V. Konstantakopoulos (Before Midnight), Damian Jones (Iron Lady), and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Loving)La La Land‘s producer Fred Berger will be the film’s executive producer. Protagonist Pictures handles the film’s international sales while Faliro House and its partners financed the feature.
