Supergirl Officially Cast in James Gunn’s DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe has finally found its Supergirl in the form of House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock.

Alcock played young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones spin-off series. She’s also appeared in 2018’s The School and 2020 series The Gloaming and Reckoning. She also has a main role in the series Upright, which has run for two seasons.

According to Deadline, it is unknown when the actress will first appear. Despite rumors of the character appearing in Superman: Legacy, which is set to film later this year, that isn’t confirmed. Instead, we know that she’ll appear in a DC project before starring in her own feature, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series, which was illustrated by Bilquis Evely. No director has been set for the upcoming project.

“We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn last year of the project. “She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
