Sony could be potentially looking to bring back the world of Uncharted via a remake, according to recent datamined leaks.
News of an Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune remake first began popping up when a known modder and dataminer, named “Speclizer_,” shared references to what he claims are an Uncharted remake that were found in the files of a 2020 build of The Last of Us Part II.
Following the references, XboxEra’s Nick “Speshal_Nick” Baker also confirmed that he had heard similar sentiments, and that Sony had been considering remaking the game. However, he stressed that this could have been an older thought by Sony, and may not be something they have in their plans now.
Datamines suggest that Uncharted Remake was in the works
After the reports and podcast went live, Speclizer_ then took to Twitter to claim responsibility for the reports. In a tweet thread, he shared a handful of images of references to Drake’s Fortune that were found in The Last of Us Part II’s files.
Included in the files are references to Uncharted’s seaplane levels, parachutes, and certain art assets. A level definition referencing the plane crash sequence in the first game is also included.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was originally released in 2007 for the PlayStation 3, and became a smash hit for developer Naughty Dog and Sony. The game went on to spawn an entire franchise, seemingly coming to an end with 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (although a standalone expansion, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, released in 2017).
