76ers’ Joel Embiid nearly nets insane, Hail Mary buzzer-beating shot vs. Suns

With the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select … Joel Embiid?

Usually, misses and incompletions don’t make for good highlights, but consider this Joel Embiid attempt the exception to the rule: The 76ers came oh-so-close to sending their Wednesday night matchup vs. the Suns into overtime on a Hail Mary toss by Embiid.

Embiid snagged a rebound off a free throw, reared back and tossed it toward the hoop, all in one semi-fluid motion, with the ball hitting the backboard and nearly caroming in.

Embiid collapsed on the court, knowing just how close he got to sending the game into an extra period.

The battle between the No. 1 seed in the East and the No. 2 seed in the West was a potential NBA Finals preview, with the Suns taking the matchup 116-113 at the buzzer. Fans were enamored with the matchup and the shot, and rightfully so:

There’s a lot of work to be done over the next week if Embiid wants to be a great passer in the NFL, so maybe he should just stick to hoops for now.
