AFCON 2022 Quarterfinals: Matches, schedule, times, TV for Africa Cup of Nations knockout round

The quarterfinals are played this weekend at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations with all four matchups played between Saturday and Sunday.

Host Cameroon became the first semifinalist after knocking off Gambia with relative ease, 2-0. Karl Toko Ekambi scored both goals in a dominant performance by the Indomitable Lions, which are looking every bit the part of AFCON 2022 winners.

After upsetting Nigeria in the Round of 16, Tunisia was upset by Burkina Faso, 1-0, in the quarters on Saturday. It’s a return of Burkina Faso to the semis after finishing third in the 2017 AFCON.

The second day of quarterfinal action will start with a North African battle between Morocco and Egypt. Mohamed Salah and the Pharaohs will be the favorites, after eliminating Ivory Coast on penalty kicks. But Morocco has looked solid thus far in the tournament. The winner will meet Cameroon in the semis.

Pre-tournament favorite Senegal will be expected to continue its march to a second consecutive AFCON final when it meets Equatorial Guinea, which advanced on penalty kicks over Mali after a scoreless stalemate to close out the Round of 16.

With defending champion Algeria eliminated in the group stage, there will be a new champion. Ghana was also shockingly eliminated from contention in the group stage.

Below is the remaining knockout bracket for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations from the quarterfinals on. Matches that end in a draw after 90 minutes of regulation will proceed to 30 minutes of extra time and a penalty-kick shootout if the draw persists after extra time. 

The third-place match on Feb. 6 is the only contest that will skip extra time and head straight to a penalty-kick shootout if the match finishes in a tie.
