Alabama vs. Auburn live score, updates, highlights from 2022 Iron Bowl football rivalry game

By | November 26, 2022

Alabama looks to finish a disappointing season on a high note as the Crimson Tide welcomes the Auburn Tigers to Tuscaloosa for the 2022 Iron Bowl.

The campaign hasn’t exactly gone to plan for Nick Saban’s squad — two losses to Tennessee and LSU have knocked it out of playoff contention. However, a win over the team’s fierce rivals from across the state will at least put a smile on the face of the fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

It could be quarterback Bryce Young’s final home game for the Crimson Tide, and he’ll be hoping to close things out in Tuscaloosa with a win.

The Tigers are dealing with their own struggles, having recently fired their head coach Bryan Harsin. They sit at 5-6 on the season, and need one more win to ensure their place in a bowl this year.

It would be an amazing upset if the Tigers pulled it off, but this is the Iron Bowl, and crazy things have been known to happen.

Alabama vs. Auburn live updates, highlights from 2022 Iron Bowl

End of third quarter: Alabama 42, Auburn 21

6:17 p.m. — The Crimson Tide defense forces a 4th and 1, but Auburn essentially has to go for it. Ashford keeps it and gets to the edge to pick up a first down and keep the drive alive.

6:13 p.m. — Ashford continues to make big plays on the ground. He rips off a pair of nice runs on consecutive plays to move the ball into Alabama territory.

6:11 p.m. — Finally, Auburn’s defense gets a stop. Young throws incomplete on back-to-back plays to bring out the punting unit. The Tigers need more if those if they want to claw back into this game.

Alabama 42, Auburn 21

6:00 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — On 3rd and goal, Ashford runs it in from 14 yards out for his third touchdown of the day!

5:56 p.m. — Auburn has a mountain to climb now. But facing 3rd and 1, Jarquez Hunter gets the ball on a reverse and breaks loose for a huge gain of 45 yards! Give the Tigers credit, they’re still fighting.

Alabama 42, Auburn 14

5:52 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — And there it is, Alabama’s lead keeps on growing! This time it’s McClellan powering his way into the end zone for the score!

5:49 p.m. — Young scrambles for 14 more yards, then a couple plays later keeps it again and runs it down to near the 10-yard line. The Tide are knocking on the door once again.

5:48 p.m. — Young completes back-to-back passes to Isaiah Bond and Jermaine Burton to move it to midfield. Another great start to a drive for Bama.

5:45 p.m. START OF SECOND HALF — Alabama gets the ball first to start the half, looking to extend their already large lead.

5:24 p.m. — That turnover towards the end of the half was killer for Auburn. Instead of having a chance to cut the lead to one touchdown, they gave up a touchdown of their own to trail by 21 points heading into the locker room. Tigers fans have some legitimate reasons to feel unlucky, but with that said Bama has been the better team so far.

End of first half: Alabama 35, Auburn 14

5:23 p.m. — Cadillac Williams made the strange decision to call a timeout as Bama was trying to kneel out the clock. That understandably drew the ire of the fans inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. not sure why exactly he decided to do that.

5:21 p.m. — The Tigers get it back, but after Ashford runs for a first down, three straight incompletions bring up 4th and 10. Auburn will punt, and that will likely be the end of any meaningful action in the first half.

Alabama 35, Auburn 14

5:16 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Young finds Traeshon Holden on a short pass, and he bolts 27 yards to the house for a touchdown! That turnover cost Auburn dearly!

5:15 p.m. — Young quickly takes advantage of the turnover, scurrying for a 21-yard gain to pick up a first down.

5:13 p.m. — The call STANDS. It’s Alabama’s football! After watching the replay, I have to say say I disagree with how that was called. The ball did not appear to touch Scott at all on the play, meaning it should have been downed at the spot Alabama jumped on the ball. However, they must have felt there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn the call on the field. Take a look:

5:10 p.m. TURNOVER — Or not! Keionte Scott botched the fair catch, and the officials are calling this a muff and a recovery by Alabama! This play is going to go under review.

5:08 p.m. — But Bama’s drive is also stymied by a penalty. Ja’Corey Brooks gets called for offensive pass interference on a 3rd and 7 conversion, and the Tide can’t convert on 3rd and 17. Auburn will get the ball back with a little less than three minutes left in the half.

5:03 p.m. — Ashford and his offense can’t dig out of the hole this time, so they’ll have to punt it away.

5:00 p.m. — Ouch, not one but TWO false start penalties back up Auburn to start this drive. The Tigers have had five false starts already this game.

Alabama 28, Auburn 14

4:56 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Whew, this game! Just two plays after Law’s big gain, Young makes a dangerous throw to the end zone, but it’s hauled in by Ja’Corey Brooks for a touchdown!

4:53 p.m. — A holding penalty threatens to derail the drive, but on 3rd and 19, Young connects with Kendrick Law, who catches and runs for a huge gain of 39 yards to move into Auburn territory!

4:49 p.m. — On 3rd and 2, Young passes to Burton for a gain of 18 yards to get the drive off to a good start.

4:44 p.m. — We’ve seen a lot of injuries already this game. Auburn defensive tackle Morris Joseph is the latest to go down.

Alabama 21, Auburn 14

4:38 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Back and forth we go! Ashford makes a great throw to the right corner of the end zone to Ja’Varrius Johnson, who hauls it in to cut Bama’s lead in half! How about this first half!

4:36 p.m. — Ashford fires to Koy Moore for 17 yards to move into Alabama territory. These two offenses are really clicking right now.

4:33 p.m. — Auburn’s drive starts with a false start, but on the next play Hunter rips off a 19-yard run to pick up a first down. Two plays later, Bigsby pushes ahead for 10 more yards to move the chains again.

Alabama 21, Auburn 7

4:29 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Roydell Williams, who just entered the game in place of the injured McClellan, evades defenders and sneaks in for a touchdown! Things have escalated quickly!

4:24 p.m. — Young comes out firing with great starting field position, connecting with Ja’Corey Brooks for a big gain of 24 yards to move down to the Auburn 10-yard line. After McClellan runs for 6 yards, Alabama will start the second quarter from the 5-yard line. McClellan was actually hurt at the end of that last play, and he’ll have to limp to the sideline.

4:22 p.m. FUMBLE — Uh oh. Things are going downhill quickly for the Tigers! Jarquez Hunter gets the pitch and makes a nice cut, but the ball shoots out of his grasp and is quickly recovered by the Tide!

Alabama 14, Auburn 7

4:20 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Young finds Jase McClellan for a touchdown to give Alabama its first lead of the game!

4:17 p.m. — The Tide is rolling now. A couple of big chunk plays, including a 17-yard toss to Robbie Ouzts, has Alabama down to Auburn’s 10-yard line.

4:14 p.m. — On 3rd and 4, Young zips it to Kendrick Law over the middle to pick up 13 yards and move the chains. Auburn defensive end Derick Hall was shaken up on that play.

4:11 p.m. — Auburn’s offense takes the field again, but they go nowhere. Tank Bigsby loses yardage on a couple of plays, then comes up way short of the first down marker on 3rd and long. Things got a little chippy at the end of that play, with words being exchanged on both sides. Auburn punts it back to Young and the Bama offense.

Auburn 7, Alabama 7

4:05 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — How about that response?!? On 3rd and goal, Alabama ties it right back up after Young trots into the end zone from five yards out!

4:03 p.m. — The Crimson Tide gets the ball back, and on the second play of the drive Young rockets one downfield for Jermaine Burton, who makes the catch to set up a lightning-quick 1st and goal for Bama!

Auburn 7, Alabama 0

3:57 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — There goes Ashford, bobbing and weaving through defenders and lunging into the end zone for a spectacular 24 yard touchdown run! The Tigers have an early lead!

3:55 p.m. — Tank Bigsby runs for 8 yards and another Auburn first down, then a pass interference call on Alabama’s Eli Ricks moves the ball all the way down to the 25-yard line.

3:50 p.m. — Ashford breaks free for a big 25-yard gain to move the Tigers up to around midfield. He’s a real threat when he gets into the open field.

3:46 p.m. — Jahmyr Gibbs rumbles for a nice 13-yard gain on Bama’s first offensive snap to get things going. But the drive stalls out shortly after that. Young’s first pass of the afternoon falls incomplete, and he can’t get anything on 3rd and 3. Auburn will get the ball right back.

3:43 p.m. — And they start it very badly. A false start on the first play moves things back, and after a decent gain on 2nd down, an incompletion by Robby Ashford brings out the punting unit.

3:40 p.m. — Alabama kicks it away and we are underway. Auburn’s offense will get the afternoon started.

3:33 p.m. — This feels like a bit of a strange occasion. For the first time in a long time, the stakes aren’t really all that high for either of these teams. Still, the winner gets bragging rights across the state until they meet again next season.

3:28 p.m. — It’s a bit of a rainy and gloomy day in Tuscaloosa. Kickoff in the 2022 Iron Bowl is just minutes away.

3:24 p.m. — This drone shot of Bryant-Denny Stadium is absolutely unreal!

3:11 p.m. — Today will be Cadillac Williams’ fourth game as Auburn’s interim head coach. Can he lead his team to a stunning upset?

3:01 p.m. — Nick Saban is in the building.
