Alabama vs. Wisconsin odds, prop bets, predictions: Can home underdog Badgers hang with Crimson Tide?

By | September 11, 2024

The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide travels to Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday to take on the unranked Wisconsin Badgers.

This clash between SEC & Big Ten teams marks their first meeting since 2015, which saw the Crimson Tide roll to a 35-17 win over the Badgers. Alabama is a double-digit favorite on the road against Wisconsin, according to odds at top-rated US sportsbooks.

Wisconsin has yet to cover ATS in wins over Western Michigan and South Dakota. Alabama scored a combined 105 points in victories over Western Kentucky and South Florida.

Let’s get to our Alabama vs. Wisconsin odds, prop bets and predictions to see if the Badgers can hang with the Crimson Tide.

Alabama betting news and analysis

The Crimson Tide (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) is operating under the direction of first-year coach Kalen DeBoer, who took the University of Washington to the national championship game last season. The Huskies came up short against Michigan, but DeBoer now has a chance to lead Alabama to its 17th national title.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is among the betting favorites to win the Heisman Trophy after finishing sixth in last year’s voting. Milroe gets it done with his arm and legs, as evidenced by his five TD passes and four rushing scores through the first two games.

Wisconsin hasn’t had much of a passing attack under former Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, and we’re not overly optimistic about its ability to run the ball against ‘Bama. Along with an explosive offense, the Crimson Tide brings a stout defensive front into this contest.

This game could unfold similarly to Texas-Michigan, with the SEC team wearing down an overmatched Big Ten squad in the second half.

Wisconsin betting news and analysis

The Badgers (2-0 SU, 0-2 ATS) failed to crack the 30-point threshold against both Western Michigan and South Dakota.

Wisconsin hope that ‘Bama plays as sloppy as it did against South Florida last week despite the final score. The Crimson Tide committed three turnovers and failed to sustain drivers for the majority of the game. Alabama was also flagged for 13 penalties.

The fact that Alabama needs to sharpen up here before its huge tilt with Georgia probably doesn’t bode well for Wisconsin backers. That coupled with the fact that Van Dyke has thrown just one TD so far is bad news for the Badgers.

Will Pauling (107 receiving yards) is the only Wisconsin WR to crack the 100-yard barrier this season. RB Chez Mellusi leads the Badgers with 134 rushing yards and three TDs, but running room will be difficult to find against Alabama’s aggressive front.

After opening with two soft opponents — and not playing particularly well against either — this tilt marks the start of the toughest two-game stretch on Wisconsin’s schedule. It travels west to face No. 11 USC after Alabama comes to town on Saturday.

Alabama vs. Wisconsin prediction: Crimson Tide covers on the road at Camp Randall

Expect Alabama to come out sharp here after its uncharacteristic sloppiness against South Florida. If it weren’t for that, there would be the possibility of a look-ahead to Georgia in two weeks. We don’t think that DeBoer and his coaching staff will allow that to happen. The Crimson Tide keeps its foot on the gas and covers this double-digit spread on the road.

Pick: Alabama -16.5
