Arsenal will be aiming to restart their Premier League title challenge following the World Cup break as they take on West Ham United on December 26.

The Premier League returns for its traditional Boxing Day (December 26) schedule after being placed on hold during the Qatar 2022 tournament.

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently leading the way at the top of the Premier League table, with a five-point advantage over defending champions Manchester City, with West Ham in 16th place.

Both teams have been in friendly action in recent weeks, with Arsenal beating Lyon and AC Milan this month, and West Ham securing an impressive win at Udinese.

Arsenal vs. West Ham lineups

Arsenal’s main post-World Cup injury issue is Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian international set to miss at least two months of action following surgery, and Kieran Tierney is also struggling with a minor knock.

Emile Smith-Rowe and Oleksandr Zinchenko are both edging back to full fitness, and could start, with Arteta set to ease his returning players back into action in the coming weeks.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale (GK) — Soares, Magalhaes, Holding, White — Xhaka, Partey, Odegaard — Saka, Nketiah, Smith-Rowe

Nayef Aguerd is out for West Ham as he aggravated an ongoing hip issue whilst away with Morocco at the World Cup but Michail Antonio and Maxwell Cornet have both been passed fit to start.

Predicted West Ham XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski (GK) — Kehrer, Ogbonna, Dawson, Cresswell — Rice, Soucek — Benrahma, Fornals, Bowen — Antonio

Arsenal vs. West Ham betting odds, prediction

The disruption of a mid-season World Cup is likely to play havoc with the Premier League campaign in the coming weeks as teams look to settle back into a rhythm.

However, Arsenal have little room for error, as they aim to keep some distance between themselves and Pep Guardiola’s City in 2023.

The Gunners headed into the break with 13 points from their last five Premier League games, and they will fancy their chances, against a West Ham side with just one Premier League win since mid-October.

Prediction: Arsenal to win 2-1
