Ravichandran Ashwin stole the show in the first test against West Indies in Dominica as India registered a thumping victory by an innings and 141 runs against the West Indies.
After Yashasvi Jaiswal took the Caribbean bowling attack to the cleaners with a gritty 171 of 387 balls that helped India post a massive 271-run lead, Ashwin’s spell of 71/7 bowled out the hosts for just 130.
The ace spinner was equally brilliant in the first innings as he picked up five wickets conceding just 60 runs.
Bet on West Indies vs India series and other cricket matches from India
The first Test turned out to be a one-sided match, with the West Indies never recovering from their batting order collapse on Day 1. Rohit and Jaiswal’s record-breaking 229-run opening partnership and respective centuries heightened the pressure on the Caribbean side.
Virat Kohli’s 76 and Ashwin’s lethal bowling sealed the deal for the Indian side on Day 3, as they earned their first points in the 2023-25 WTC cycle. It was Ashwin’s eighth 10-wicket haul which helped him match legendary spinner Anil Kumble’s record.
