Bears coach Matt Eberflus sounds like he’s ready to select Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus didn’t quite say the Bears were settled on Caleb Williams as their choice with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he came awfully close while speaking with the media at the NFL owners meetings.

“It was great,” Eberflus said of his experience at Caleb Williams’ pro day. The biggest takeaway is that you can see the arm talent on the film and you can see it in person.

“What I loved to see was the interaction with the other players. You can see that, and we talked to every person that was on that team. At the Senior Bowl we interviewed them and interviewed them at the pro day. We talked to those guys at the dinner and you can certainly see those players love him and respect him and what he’s brought to that program.”

Eberflus echoes many of the same thoughts shared by general manager Ryan Poles.

“When you talk to his teammates, they don’t like him, they love him,” Poles said on Monday. “His leadership, how he brings people together…I’m having a hard time finding a person that doesn’t like him or even love him and thinks that he can’t reach the highest limits.”

The Bears will continue doing their due diligence throughout the 2024 NFL Draft process, including trips to other top quarterback pro days. But it certainly feels like a foregone conclusion that Caleb Williams will be a Chicago Bear.

The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off kicks off on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET from Detroit.
