Bills’ Josh Allen pays homage to Ryan Fitzpatrick with jersey in pregame warmups and postgame interviews

Josh Allen really likes to recognize where he’s from and those who came before him.

Sometimes it’s by wearing his high school’s sweatshirt. Other times, it’s by earning brownie points with the broadcast crew by wearing a member’s jersey. On “Thursday Night Football,” it was the latter.

Allen warmed up in a Ryan Fitzpatrick Bills jersey, and then joined the set wearing Fitzpatrick’s threads after the Bills’ 24-10 win.

The jersey was also autographed by Fitzpatrick, which only added to the fun.

Fitzpatrick, who retired prior to this season and joined Amazon’s NFL broadcast crew, is a loud member of Bills Mafia when he isn’t professionally neutral.

Fitzpatrick may not have broken any records in his NFL career, but fans seemed to love to have him, and for no one is that more true than Buffalo. Fitzpatrick has the hallmarks of what makes Bills fans great, and he has the fandom part down pat, including a bit of a grudge toward Tom Brady.

As for Allen, his jersey choice was immensely popular.

Because the Bills won, Allen was able to have some fun after the game. He ditched his regular No. 17 jersey and talked to Fitzpatrick and the rest of the panel wearing the Fitzpatrick jersey.

The two shared a quick hug when Allen got to the set.

Fitzpatrick also had the quote of the night after he intercepted a question from Richard Sherman to Allen comparing the two. Fitzpatrick said that former Bills teammate Lee Smith said early in Allen’s tenure that Allen “has a lot of the qualities (that Fitzpatrick has), but he’s talented.”

Fitzpatrick sold himself short, but there’s no question Allen does things very few quarterbacks can do, like this touchdown pass.

He wasn’t perfect Thursday, but he got the Bills a win. That has been the Bills’ M.O. recently, and it has them atop the AFC East once again — at least for the time being, with the Dolphins taking on the 49ers on Sunday.
