The Toronto Blue Jays are currently in a dead heat with the New York Yankees for supremacy over the American League East, in a recent slump while the Yankees have gotten hot at the perfect time as of late.
If the Blue Jays are able to edge out the Bronx Bombers for the crown, they will be rewarded with a first-round bye and find themselves inserted directly into the American League Divisional Series.
And if they do get that bye, it could give one star player on Toronto time to heal up in time for the postseason competition.
Bo Bichette Still Day-To-Day With Injury
Toronto’s All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette hasn’t been in a major league lineup since September 6th due to a lower body injury, and according to recent reports that say Bichette has yet to start running since the injury happened, the time could be running short on the star joining the team for the postseason, especially if Toronto fails to clinch the division and the bye against the Yankees.
“No real change, but some progress, which is good. Day-to-day with him,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider told MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson. “I’m hoping, sometime soon, that we have a significant update in the right direction, but still day-to-day.”
The Blue Jays play one final series against the Tampa Bay Rays, hoping to outlast their rivals from New York and avoid having it go to a tiebreaker, though it is currently in the Jays’ favor.
