The Atlanta Braves would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.
Atlanta was 67-59 on the season entering Thursday, good for a one and a half game lead over the New York Mets for the third and final National League Wild Card position.
The Braves have been through a lot of adversity this year — mostly in the form of injuries — and yet that still hasn’t stopped people from believing in their chances come September and October.
New York Post’s Jon Heyman is not one of those people.
In his newest Wild Card predictions for the end of the 2024 season, Heyman had some interesting thoughts on the Braves.
Heyman believes Atlanta will ultimately cede the final Wild Card spot to Mets, thereby missing the playoffs.
“I think with all the injuries the Braves have had … I’m going to take the Mets to get in there and get that sixth playoff position,” Heyman said.
“I gave the Braves credit for hanging in there. It’s amazing with all the injuries they’ve had, and (Brian) Snitker’s done a great job. They’ve got a bunch of gamers … The Braves are tough … But I did pick the Mets (to make the playoffs) on May 18.”
