Braves predicted to cut ties with another outfield veteran after trading Jorge Soler

The Atlanta Braves are tweaking their roster.

After making several moves amid injury desperation during the 2024 season, the front office is already retooling with an eye toward 2025. The team traded outfield slugger Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels after bringing him onboard from the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline.

Now that the team has begun its offseason in earnest, Zach Pressnell of FanSided has predicted it will offload another outfield veteran next, naming Adam Duvall as one of the players “who won’t be back” after the Soler trade.

“The most obvious player that won’t be back in 2025 is the expiring outfielder, Adam Duvall,” Pressnell predicted. “Atlanta was in desperate need for an outfielder all season long and Duvall was a huge reason as to why. For the length of his career in Atlanta, he was a productive player, but this year he was anything but.”

In 11 big-league seasons, Duvall earned an All-Star nod and a Gold Glove Award. He played for the Braves in six different seasons, including the 2021 postseason run that culminated in a World Series championship.

Across his career, Duvall slashed .227/.287/.459 with 195 career homers. But this past season, after signing a $3 million, single-year deal to return to the Braves, he slashed just .182/.245/.323 in 104 games.

Now, the Braves are unlikely to bring him back as they shuffle their personnel ahead of next season.

“The Braves won’t be looking to re-sign Duvall this winter,” Pressnell added. “The most realistic scenario for the veteran outfielder is that he ends up signing a minor league deal for the league minimum with a team that’s willing to give him a chance to return to form. After being a negative piece to the Braves, that minor league deal likely won’t be with Atlanta.”

Without Duvall or Soler, the Braves can be hopeful that superstar outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. returns from a season-ending injury in short order. And the team might add any number of complementary players as the offseason goes on.
