The Cleveland Browns are deep into their preparations for their Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. For a team that has started the season 1-6, they are looking for every competitive advantage that they can find to help them win a game.
Earlier this week, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Jameis Winston would start at quarterback for the injured Deshaun Watson, and he’d also be turning over the playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. As someone who has held a firm grip on that responsibility during his tenure in Cleveland, Stefanski noted that he was willing to try anything to help the team improve.
It won’t get any easier for the Browns as they welcome the Ravens and their league-leading offense to town. Both Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are in the conversation as early-season MVP candidates.
Browns safety Grant Delpit offered up a hysterical idea when asked about preparing to defend Henry in the run game.
Delpit suggested that the team put offensive tackle Dawand Jones at running back on the scout team. “King Henry” strikes fear into the souls of defensive backs on a weekly basis, but one could only imagine Jones, who is listed at 6’8”, 374 pounds, lining up in the pistol formation and taking handoffs.
We’ve all heard that desperate times call for desperate measures, but unfortunately for the Browns, Jones is a little busy taking snaps at left tackle. He may need to switch sides this week as Jedrick Wills is dealing with a knee injury that has forced him to miss two days of practice.
