Bryson DeChambeau vs. Brooks Koepka live golf results, highlights from ‘The Match’ in 2021

By | November 26, 2021

The Bryson DeChambeau vs. Brooks Koepka might be settled once and for all now after Koepka won the fifth edition of “The Match” on Friday afternoon.

Although four-time “The Match” participant turn commentator Phil Mickelson predicted that Koepka would take an early lead, but ultimately DeChambeau would win, Koepka proved Mickelson wrong. Koepka did start off strong going 1UP after two holes, so at least that part of the predicition was right.

Koepka then won Holes 5 and 6, along with Hole 8. He was then 4UP with four holes to play. After DeChambeau missed a birdie putt on Hole 9, “The Match” was officially over. DeChambeau did not win a single hole, and he didn’t have any birdies in today’s match.

There wasn’t as much trash talking as viewers expected. This happened to be the first time DeChambeau and Koepka ever played together. The broadcast booth asked Koepka if he would do it again, and he said “Nope.” So, this might be the only time we see the two play with each other for a while, or ever.

Live updates will begin around 4 p.m. ET.

All times Eastern.

6:25 p.m. — DeChambeau is closest to the hole on Hole 11, so another $50,000 is donated to charity. This was officially the last hole.

6:13 p.m. — DeChambeau decides to donate another $50,000 for a third long drive chance. Because he hit the fairway, Koepka will donate $50,000 and Barkley will donate $25,000. DeChambeau’s ball went 402 yards.

6:12 p.m. — Even though Koepka already won the match, they continued to play out the rest of the three holes in order to finish the charity competitions. Hole 10 is the long drive competition, which DeChambeau wins the first time around for $200,000 to be donated. DeChambeau and Koepka both decide to donate $50,000 for another long drive chance.

6:05 p.m. — DeChambeau misses his birdie putt, so Koepka officially wins “The Match.”

6:03 p.m. — It’s the first time that DeChambeau and Koepka have ever been paired together. Would Koepka do it again? “Nope.”

6:01 p.m. — Koepka wins closest to the hole on Hole 9, so $500,000 will be donated to the charity of his choice.

6:00 p.m. — After Koepka’s tee shot lands near the hole, DeChambeau pokes some fun at him and asks where this playing is during the PGA Tour. Koepka made sure to mention his four. major wins.

5:54 p.m. — Koepka asks Mickelson how he feels about his prediction after he goes 4UP with four holes remaining. DeChambeau must win the next hole to stay in the competition.

5:53 p.m. — DeChambeau misses a close putt for birdie. He could hear the broadcasting crew the whole time he was attempting the putt.

5:50 p.m. — Both balls drop near the hole, so it will be difficult for DeChambeau to try to come back on Hole 8.

5:44 p.m. — DeChambeau’s long drive capabilities are not struggling as he drives 376 yards on Hole 8.

5:37 p.m. — There still isn’t much trash talking, so Mickelson asks Koepka what he would say to his friends back home to rile them up, but he replied saying he can’t say those things on air.

5:36 p.m. — DeChambeau misses his chance to win his first hole of the day after he doesn’t make his birdie attempt on Hole 7. They tie the hole.

5:29 p.m. — Mickelson and DeChambeau’s technical golf talks continue to confuse Charles Barkley.

5:26 p.m. — Koepka’s ball landed underneath a golf cart parked in the rough. Mickelson commented that they were going to leave the cart there for Koepka’s second shot, and DeChambeau gladly agreed and said he needs that to get back into the groove.

5:15 p.m. — Koepka continues to dominate as he goes 3UP through six holes.

5:09 p.m. — Another additional competition hole on Hole 6. Koepka’s drive lands on the green near the hole, and so does DeChambeau’s. However, DeChambeau’s shot had a lot of spin on it, so Koepka won closest to the hole. Now, 500,000 meals will be donated to Feeding America in Koepka’s name.

5:05 p.m. — Koepka misses his eagle attempt, so he finishes with a birdie. DeChambeau misses his birdie putt, putting Koepka 2UP through five holes.

5:03 p.m. — DeChambeau’s shoes are highlighted by the broadcast booth, which show off “The Match” and the two golfer’s initials.

5:01 p.m. — Koepka puts his ball on the green, while DeChambeau’s shot was just short of the green.

4:57 p.m. — After DeChambeau tees off, he asks Mickelson if he liked the long drive. “I loved it,” Mickelson replied. They are poking fun at their earlier conversation when Mickelson asked DeChambeau if hitting bombs makes him more attractive.

4:49 p.m. — DeChambeau and Koepka both miss their birdie putts. DeChambeau says he would make a “snarky comment” about Koepka missing, but he still had to make a par putt, which he makes. There still isn’t much trash talking, which fans on Twitter aren’t too happy about.

4:41 p.m. — Mickelson reminds viewers that his prediction was right after Koepka’s drive lands in the bark and bushes on Hole 4. DeChambeau’s drive landed in the fairway.

4:38 p.m. — DeChambeau misses his birdie putt for a chance to win the hole. Koepka makes his par putt to tie the hole.

4:25 p.m. — Koepka makes birdie and wins the second hole. Koepka is 1UP.

4:21 p.m. — DeChambeau lands in another bunker, but Koepka’s second shot landed near the hole. This gives Koepka a chance to take the lead.

4:15 p.m. — The first “Fore!” is shouted after DeChambeau’s drive hangs way right. Thankfully, there were no fans in the area where the ball dropped. Koepka follows it up with a drive landing in the fairway.

4:12 p.m. — DeChambeau makes his par putt, so they tie the first hole. Not too much trash talking, yet.

4:04 p.m. — DeChambeau’s opening drive bounced over the cart path and ended up in some bushes. Koepka’s landed right before the cart path in the rough. Both rocky starts for the golfers.
