College World Series 2021: Latest updates on rain delay in Vanderbilt vs. Mississippi State Game 2

Baseball fans are going to have to wait for the start of the second game of the College World Series.

The NCAA announced just before the planned time for first pitch, 7 p.m. ET, that the second game of the College World Series would begin in a rain delay. The organization didn’t provide an update for when the game will start.

Sporting News is tracking the latest updates on the weather delay in Omaha, Neb.

College World Series rain delay updates

9:02 p.m.: The teams are meeting out on the field and this game is now about to begin. 

8:45 p.m.: The tarp is coming off. 

8:30 p.m.: The College World Series is scheduled to have first pitch thrown out at 9:10 p.m. ET. 

8:20 p.m.: The Lincoln Journal-Star is reporting that there are still no updates to come from the NCAA, but the grounds crew is on the field. 

8:00 p.m.: The officials are set to meet in the next five minutes to discuss the status of the game moving forward, according to Karl Ravech on the ESPN broadcast. 

7:43 p.m.: The Weather Channel is currently projecting the occasional rain to end around 8:30 p.m. ET. Once the rain stops, it will still take some time for the tarp to be cleared, the teams to warm up and the game to start.
