D’Andre Swift touched the ball twice in Week 1 against the Patriots. He went off for a career day in a Week 2 win against the Vikings.
The Eagles acquired Swift in the offseason from the Lions, sending over a 2025 fourth-round pick and swapping 2023 sevenths with Detroit, and the expectation was he would fill in following the departure of leading rusher Miles Sanders.
It appeared after Week 1 that he wasn’t as much in the plans as many expected. Kenneth Gainwell rushed 14 times for 54 yards against the Patriots, and no other running back carried the ball more than once. Swift had one rush for three yards and had one catch on two targets for no receiving yards.
But Gainwell was out in Week 2 with a rib injury, leaving Swift, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny as the running backs available to play.

Swift sure looked swift against the Vikings. He exploded for 175 yards on 28 carries with a touchdown, tacking on three passes for six yards for good measure. His performance exceeded his previous career-best in rushing yards by 31, with his last best coming against the Eagles on Sept. 11, 2022, when he rushed for 144 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown in the Lions’ 38-35 loss to Philadelphia.
But Travis Kelce is not the only Kelce brother connected with a Swift, and on Thursday, Jason Kelce and the rest of the Eagles’ offensive line earned some credit from the standout running back for helping him en route to his big game.
“[The defense] made it hard early on, but just staying with the play calls and the little details. Kept working at it. Offensive line made it a little bit easy so we stuck with what was working,” Swift said.
With Gainwell out, Swift saw the majority of the carries on a day the offense rushed the ball 48 total times to just 23 passing attempts. Scott carried the ball five times for 40 yards, while Penny rushed three times for nine yards.

The performance by Swift was all the more special since he got to do it in front of his hometown fans. Swift went to St. Joseph’s Prep, a high school in Philadelphia that has become a football powerhouse in the state. The school has produced other notable football talent like Packers offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr., Falcons corner John Reid, Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord and standout receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., as well as Buckeye defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.
According to Amazon’s broadcast, it was the most rushing yards by a Philadelphia-native Eagles player. It was also the 11th-most rushing yards by an Eagles player in a single game of all time, and the most since LeSean McCoy’s 217 against the Lions on Dec. 8, 2013, which is also the team single-game record.
