Dodgers’ Dave Roberts hints at brand-new Shohei Ohtani World Series role to save season

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a hole after losing the last two games of the World Series. To be frank, they find themselves in a nightmarish situation as they head back to Toronto with no room for error. In fact, Yoshinobu Yamamoto is being called upon to have the game of his life.

“I’m not kidding when I say Yoshinobu Yamamoto might have to throw a shutout to force a Game 7. Might be the only way. I have zero faith in this offense to do anything. They’ll need to string together a few runs and just hope Yamamoto manages to pitch the game of his life,” Dodgers writer Blake Harris wrote.

There’s no clear sense of direction for this team right now, especially with the lackluster performances the offense has been putting up. With no margin for error, manager Dave Roberts has hinted that Shohei Ohtani could come out of the bullpen.

“If he can go, if it makes sense, certainly, he would be an option,” Roberts said.

This idea has been discussed for quite some time, and it now seems like it could come to fruition. Ohtani expressed regret after his Game 4 start, so this would be a great opportunity for him to prove himself on the mound once again.

“My goal is to be able to pitch six innings, and the situation in this game I wanted to go seven. It was regrettable that I wasn’t able to finish that inning,” Ohtani told the media following the game.

The Dodgers are pulling out all the stops, and it will take some creativity and bold moves to climb out of this deficit. At this point, it feels like the series may be slipping away.

However, a move like this could right the ship for two more games. Roberts knows his team is in trouble. The Dodgers are the defending champs, and for the first time this postseason, their backs are truly against the wall.
