Dodgers vs. Rays live score, updates, highlights from Game 6 of the 2020 World Series

The Dodgers are just One. Win. Away.

The boys from LA were just a Game 7 victory away in 2017, were trounced in 2018 by the Red Sox and didn’t make an appearance in 2019. But the past is the past and the future is now, and they have a chance to send the Rays packing with a Game 6 win Tuesday night.

The hope rests in the arm of Tony Gonsolin, who has been largely underwhelming this postseason for the Dodgers: In his first World Series start, in Game 2, Gonsolin went 1 1/3 innings — on two days’ rest — allowing one run on a home run, walking a batter and throwing 29 pitches (16 for strikes).

The Rays are countering with Blake Snell, who was pulled a little early in his Game 2 start. Snell allowed two runs on two hits and four walks but struck also out nine over 4 2/3 innings. Now, facing elimination — where the Rays have been twice already this postseason — they’ll turn to him to help pull out a win that will force a Game 7.

Can the Rays reach back into their black bag of devil (ray) magic and pull out the win? Or can the Dodgers exorcise demons of Fall Classics past and capture that elusive World Series ring?

11:19 p.m. LOS ANGELES SCORING PLAY: Mookie Betts drills a home run to left center, giving Julio Urias some breathing room. Dodgers take a two-run lead, 3-1.

11:14 p.m. END TOP EIGHTH: The Dodgers are now just three defensive outs away from a World Series victory after Julio Urias makes easy work of the Rays in the top half of the eighth.

11:06 p.m. END OF SEVENTH: Dodgers leave two stranded and Randy Arozarena is coming up in the eighth. Outs getting slim for the Rays.

11:01 p.m.: Joc Pederson is intentionally walked and Austin Barnes is now up, who is 1 for 2 tonight

10:53 p.m.: Will Smith smokes a leadoff double off of Pete Fairbanks. Bellinger up.

10:48 p.m. END TOP SEVENTH: Urias gets Yandy Diaz looking at a 95 mph fastball on the black. Dodgers up 2-1 entering the home half.

10:42 p.m.: Mike Zunino with a two-out hit, his first hit of the World Series. Graterol is out. Julio Urias is in.

10:35 p.m. END OF SIXTH: Dodgers take the lead in a crazy bottom half. Now it’s up to LA’s pitching to hold down the fort for the next nine outs.

10:29 p.m. LOS ANGELES SCORING PLAY: Fielder’s choice from Seager allows Betts to score from third. The Dodgers have taken the lead, 2-1.

10:27 p.m. LOS ANGELES SCORING PLAY: Wild pitch allows Barnes to score from third. The game is tied 1-1.

10:19 p.m.: Austin Barnes is on board with a one-out single. And out comes Blake Snell, after dazzling all night.

10:14 p.m. END TOP SIXTH: Gonzalez strikes out Wendle. Still just a run on the board on either side, with both lineups struggling mightily tonight. Dodgers due up.

10:12 p.m.: Victor Gonzalez working through the sixth inning pretty handily, the fourth Dodgers reliever tonight. Two outs in the top half.

10:02 p.m. END OF FIFTH: Blake Snell with another three outs in the fifth. He’s completely shutting the Dodgers down. Rays still lead 1-0 heading to the sixth.

9:58 p.m.: Dodgers still looking for offense as Cody Bellinger grounds out for the second out in the inning. Two outs in the fifth.

9:50 p.m. END TOP FIFTH: In comes Victor Gonzalez, who throws one pitch to Meadows, grounds out to end the inning. 

9:47 p.m.: Randy Arozarena with a two-out hit. Baez is now coming out with Austin Meadows coming up.

9:44 p.m.: Alex Wood is out after two perfect innings, and in comes Pedro Baez.

9:39 p.m. END OF FOURTH: Another dominant inning for Snell, who gets the side to whiff. Dodgers still looking for some offense, and the Rays coming up.

9:02 p.m. END OF SECOND: Snell cruises through two, has five Ks through two innings working. Alex Wood coming in to pitch for the Dodgers.

8:53 p.m. END TOP SECOND: Floro gets Arozarena to swing through Strike 3 to end the threat in the second. 

8:48 p.m.: Two on and two out, and Gonsolin is done after just five outs. Arozarena coming up, Dylan Floro coming in. 

8:38 p.m.: Kevin Kiermaier with a one-out double. He’s red-hot this World Series, and Gonsolin is getting hit hard through an inning and a third.

All seven games of the World Series will take place from MLB’s bubble location in Arlington, Texas. Games will be played at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers.

The Dodgers will operate as the home team in Games 1, 2, 6 and 7. Sides flip in Games 3, 4 and 5 when the Rays will be the home team.
