Does Viktor Gyokeres have a release clause? How much Sporting CP star’s transfer would cost Arsenal, Barcelona or Man United

By | November 26, 2024

Viktor Gyokeres has gone from relative obscurity in English league football to one of the most in-form and in-demand attacking players in the global game.

The Sweden star’s astonishing goal-scoring prowess for his country and club side Sporting CP have seen him compared with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and tipped for a major transfer in 2025.

Arsenal, who meet Sporting in the UEFA Champions League on November 26, are one of the main sides considered to be interested in signing Gyokeres.

Manchester United are another, particularly now they have former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim in charge, while Barcelona reportedly consider the player to be a potential long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.

But how much would such a transfer cost? Does Gyokeres have a buyout clause in his contract? And what sort of profit do Sporting stand to make on the striker? The Sporting News explains.

Does Viktor Gyokeres have a release clause?

According to widespread reports, Gyokeres’ contract with Sporting CP contains a release clause of €100 million (£83.6m/$105.1m).

Of course, that does not mean a club could not strike a deal for a little less, if the circumstances suit the selling club.

How much would Viktor Gyokeres transfer cost?

BBC Sport reported in early November that Sporting would be prepared to accept a fee closer to €85m (£70.7m/$89.3m) for Gyokeres, or even perhaps slightly less.

The report states that the forward’s camp have been told the Portuguese club will be willing to negotiate with interested parties over a transfer fee, rather than necessarily hold out for the full buyout clause.

How much did Sporting CP pay to sign Viktor Gyokeres?

Any Gyokeres sale would almost certainly guarantee Sporting a healthy profit on the player.

They signed the forward from Coventry City for €20m (£16.7m/$21m) in July 2023, with Gyokeres signing a five-year contract.

Do Coventry have a sell-on clause for Gyokeres?

The EFL Championship club will reportedly receive 10 percent of any profit Sporting make on Gyokeres, should a transfer be agreed.
