By | March 24, 2024

One’s a storied program with multiple national championships and NBA players. The other is playing in the Round of 32 for the first time in over 40 years.

The beauty of March Madness is that these teams, Duke and James Madison, square off for the first time to punch their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen.

Duke (25-8) finished second in the ACC regular season standings and is led by star center Kyle Filipowski. Filipowski leads the team with 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game while his 2.8 assists per game ranks third on the team.

The Blue Devils consistently faced top 25 teams throughout the season, finishing 10th in the NET ranking. They were 5-4 against Quad 1 teams and 6-4 against Quad 2 teams but were a combined 14-0 against Quads 3 and 4.

The Dukes have a balanced attack led by Terrence Edwards Jr., who averaged 17.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. T.J. Bickerstaff added 13.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, and Noah Freidel puts up 12 points and 5.3 rebounds.
