Eagles vs. Packers live score, updates, highlights from 2024 NFL Friday night football game

By | September 6, 2024

The Eagles and Packers Week 1 matchup is the first Friday game on opening weekend since 1970.

However, that isn’t the only thing that’s unique about the meeting of NFC foes.

For the first time in the history of the league, an NFL game will take place in South America as Philadelphia and Green Bay face off in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Both teams made postseason runs in January and both teams have lofty expectations for their 2024 campaigns. The Eagles look to reclaim the NFC East title behind fifth-year quarterback Jalen Hurts while the Packers rally around Jordan Love at the helm to improve on a Divisional Round exit.

The Sporting News has you covered with Eagles vs. Packers live scores, updates, and highlights from the 2024 NFL Friday night football game in Brazil.

Eagles vs. Packers results, highlights from Friday night football

(All times Eastern)

Third quarter

10:26 p.m. — Love delivers a perfect pass to Doubs on the left sideline who is pushed out of bounds at the Green Bay 32 for a 12-yard gain. Wilson then takes a handoff for four yards but the Packers are called for an illegal shift for a five yard penalty, setting up 1st & 15 at their own 27.

10:24 p.m. — Gary goes around the block and engulfs Hurts for a sack and 6-yard loss, forcing the Eagles to punt on 4th & 14. Mann punts it to the Packer 20 where Lovato fair catches it for Green Bay with 10:26 to go in the quarter.

10:23 p.m. — Hurts attempts a dangerous throw to Goedert but it is swatted down by Cooper. Then, he hands one off to Barkley who takes it forward for two yards.

10:21 p.m. — Narveson kicks another touchback and the Eagles retain possession at their own 30.

Packers 26, Eagles 24

10:18 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN! Love fires a pass straight up the middle to Watson who snags it in the end zone for a 2-yard score. Narveson nails the extra point and the Packers find themselves back in front with 11:55 remaining in the third.

10:17 p.m. — On 3rd & 9, Love throws it toward the right corner of the end zone where Wicks was covered by Maddox. Maddox put up too much contact and was quickly called for pass interference, setting up the Packers at the 2-yard line.

10:15 p.m. — Love passes it short to Kraft who explodes upfield for a 29-yard play, setting up Green Bay at the Eagles 16. Jacobs runs it for one yard before Love throws another incompletion to Kraft to bring up third down.

10:14 p.m. — Love throws another incompletion to Melton, but two penalties are called on the Eagles: Baun for roughing the passer and Mitchell for pass interference. The Packers get the ball at the Philly 45-yard line with a fresh set of downs.

10:13 p.m. — Love throws an incomplete pass to start the drive before handing it off to Jacobs, who runs it for eight yards before fumbling. Thankfully, Melton was there to get on it for the Packers and Green Bay retained possession at their own 39.

10:11 p.m. — Mann’s kickoff goes for a touchback and the Packers will start with the ball on their own 30.

Eagles 24, Packers 19

10:09 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN! Hurts starts things off with a handoff to Barkley who drives it three yards. Then, he steps back and slings it deep to Brown down the right sideline before the wide receiver sprints across the field and into the end zone. Elliot hits the extra point and the Eagles reclaim the lead with 14:09 to go in the third.

10:07 p.m. — Naveson’s kick to open the second half goes into the end zone for a touchback, and the Eagles will start with the ball on their own 30.

Halftime: Packers 19, Eagles 17

9:51 p.m. — Sirianni sends out Elliot for a 38-yard field goal, which he hits with ease as the clock winds down to zero. The Eagles will receive the kick to start the second half and enter the locker room down two to the Packers.

9:50 p.m. — A false start is called on Goedert, setting the Eagles back to the 25 and setting up 2nd & 21. Hurts passes short to Goedert on the next play for a gain of five, then spikes the ball to stop the clock.

9:48 p.m. — Hurts scrambles out of the pocket on the next play and Nixon is able to make a huge play, sacking the quarterback at the 20-yard line for a loss of six with 30 seconds remaining.

9:47 p.m. — Gainwell takes the next handoff and runs for two yards before Hurts passes it to him on 2nd down and he ran for 10 more and a 1st down. Sirianni calls his second timeout with his offense at the Packer 14 with a fresh set of downs with 43 seconds to go.

9:45 p.m. — With all three timeouts remaining, the Eagles set up a play and appeared to go with a hard count, attempting to draw the Packers offsides. That failed, and Sirianni called a timeout. Hurts comes back out and rifles a pass into the arms of Smith at the Green Bay 28, giving the Eagles a first down.

9:41 p.m. — Barkley powers it up the middle for a 2-yard gain, then Hurts tries to hit Wilson deep down the right sideline but overthrows him. Hurts then runs it up the middle for five yards to set up 4th & 3 at the Packer 33 as the clock winds down to the two minute warning.

9:39 p.m. — Hurts throws away another ball while being chased down by Packer defenders before handing it off to Barkley for a 3-yard gain. The quarterback then hits Goedert coming across the field for a 21-yard gain to set up 1st down at the Green Bay 40.

9:37 p.m. — Hurts attempts to find Brown but his pass is incomplete. However, he finds Brown again on the next play for a 13-yard completion and a 1st down at their own 36.

9:35 p.m. — Narveson’s kickoff goes into the end zone but is caught by Gainwell, who returns it to the Eagles 23-yard line.

Packers 19, Eagles 14

9:31 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN! Love makes up for his last two incompletions with a pinpoint pass to a wide open Reed, who runs it all the way into the end zone for a 70 yard score. It’s the longest touchdown pass of Love’s career so far, and it puts the Packers back in front with 5:11 to go in the half and a made field goal by Narveson to go with it. The drive only took the Packer offense 23 seconds.

9:30 p.m. — Love slips before throwing a near interception right into Dean’s waiting hands. The quarterback then tries a deep throw to Musgrave on the left sideline who fails to bring it in, setting up 3rd & 10 on their own 30.

9:29 p.m. — Mann kicks it deep for a touchback and the Packers will resume on their own 30. Notably, Green Bay is also out of timeouts with more than five minutes remaining.

Eagles 14, Packers 12

9:25 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN! Barkley takes the next handoff and sprints untouched up the middle into a wide open end zone, putting the Eagles back in the lead. Elliot hits the extra point and Philadelphia is in front two points with 5:34 left in the second quarter.

9:25 p.m. — A short pass to Barkley and even shorter run by Hurts set up 3rd & 1, where Hurts is pushed up the middle for a 1st down at the Packer 11.

9:22 p.m. — Hurts attempts to run but only claims one yard, but he connects with Smith on the next play for nearly 20 yards before the wideout gains three more. Hurts completes to Barkley on the next play for another five yard gain to set up 2nd & 5 at the Packer 17.

9:20 p.m. — Barkley kicks off the drive with a 2-yard run, then Hurts throws an incomplete pass deep to avoid being sacked. He then redeems himself with a completion to Brown on the left sideline, who breaks a tackle and runs it for 20 yards to the Packer 48.

9:19 p.m. — Naveson’s kickoff goes into the end zone and the Eagles will receive the ball at their own 30.

Packers 12, Eagles 7

9:13 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN! In a very run-focused drive, Reed receives the next handoff on a jet sweep and careens into the end zone, breaking several tackles on the way. Narveson makes the extra point, but offsides is called on Philadelphia’s Carter, and the Packers choose to go for two. The conversion attempt fails on a Jacobs run, but the Packers still jump into the lead with 10:16 remaining in the half.

9:11 p.m. — Wilson tacks on another five yards the next handoff, just before exploding up the middle on the following play for 18 yards all the way to the Philadelphia 33.

9:09 p.m. — Love starts out the drive with an incomplete pass to a wide open Wicks, who can’t keep his balance on receiving the ball. Wilson receives the next handoff from Love and runs for 14 yards to give Green Bay a 1st down at their own 44.

9:08 p.m. — Mann’s kickoff goes through the end zone, and the Packers will receive the ball at their own 30.

Eagles 7, Packers 6

9:05 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN! Eighteen yards is nothing for Hurts, who slings it to the left edge of the end zone where Barkley makes a diving grab for his first score in an Eagles uniform. Elliot nails the extra point and suddenly Philadelphia has the lead with 12:38 to go in the half.

9:04 p.m. — Barkley explodes up the middle on the next play for 11 yards, setting up the Eagles in the red zone for the first time tonight. He loses one yard on his next carry, setting up Hurts at the 18-yard line on 2nd & 11.

9:02 p.m. — Hurts begins the second frame with an incomplete pass, and then he pushes up the middle on 3rd & 1 but doesn’t get the 1st down. With inches to go, the Sirianni elects to go for it. Thankfully, Green Bay’s Slaton is called for encroachment and the Eagles suddenly go back to 1st & 10 at the Packer 28.

End of first quarter: Packers 6, Eagles 0

8:58 p.m. — Hurts runs it for two yards and then passes it short right to Smith on the next play, tacking on another eight for a 1st down at the Packer 43. Hurts then passes it to his left to Smith who earns nine yards as the clock winds down to end the first quarter. Philadelphia will resume in the second with 2nd & 1 at Green Bay’s 34.

8:55 p.m. — Hurts passes it to Goedert for a 4-yard gain before he hands it off to Barkley for five more, setting up 3rd & 1. The quarterback follows that up with an 8-yard pass to Brown, and Green Bay is called offsides, pushing the Eagles forward for 1st down at their own 47.

8:53 p.m. — Narveson’s kickoff goes through the end zone and Philadelphia will receive it on their own 30. Hurts looks to redeem himself after turnovers on two consecutive drives to start the game.

Packers 6, Eagles 0

8:50 p.m. — Narveson enters the game again and hits yet another field goal, this time from 23 yards out. Green Bay stays in front 6-0 with 3:01 to go in the first.

8:49 p.m. — Love passes it to Kraft who gains eight yards on the play to set the Packers up at Philly’s 5-yard line on 2nd down. The quarterback then throws two consecutive incomplete passes to Doubs and Watson, who slips in the end zone during his attempt, to bring up 4th & Goal.

8:47 p.m. — Love’s first attempt into the end zone is a pass left to Watson, who is unable to make the catch under coverage from Blankenship. Additionally, Doubs draws a penalty for offensive pass interference, which sets Green Bay back 10 yards for 1st & Goal from the 13.

8:45 p.m. — Jacobs is stopped on the next play by the Eagles defensive line from getting the first down, but LaFleur decides to go for it on 4th & 2. Hurts hands it off the Jacobs again, who pushes forward just enough to get the first to give Green Bay 1st and Goal on the 3-yard line.

8:43 p.m. — After a holding penalty charged to Kraft pushes the Packers back to the 23-yard line, Love completes two passes to Reed and Doubs to move the ball back up to the Philadelphia 4 for 3rd & 1.

8:41 p.m. — Barkley pushes the pile for a 3-yard run before Hurts makes a short 1-yard pass to Goedert, setting up the Eagles at 3rd & 6. Hurts then fumbles the snap which is recovered by Green Bay’s Wyatt to give the Packers possession at the Philadelphia 13. Jason Kelce’s absence is certainly being felt.

8:40 p.m. — Narveson kicks it off for the Packers to Gainwell at the Philly 6, and Gainwell runs it 10 yards to the 16 where the Eagles will start the drive.

Packers 3, Eagles 0

8:37 p.m. — LaFleur called on kicker Narveson to deliver Green Bay’s first points of the season, and he drilled a 31-yard field goal in response. The Packers go up 3-0 with 8:26 remaining in the first quarter.

8:33 p.m. — The Packers don’t do much to start their drive, eventually ending up at 2nd & 20 after Walker drew a 10-yard holding penalty. After an incomplete pass, on 3rd down Love passes it short to Jacobs who runs to the Philly 13 to get the Packers in field goal range.

8:31 p.m. — INTERCEPTION! Hurts throws it long from his own end zone, intended for Smith, but McKinney gets his hands on it and returns it to the Philadelphia 19. The Packers get the ball back in the red zone.

8:30 p.m. — Hurts takes the Eagles opening snap and shovels it to Barkley who slips in the backfield and is tapped by a Packer for a 5-yard loss. The quarterback follows that with an incompletion to Brown.

8:25 p.m. — After failing to get the first down, LaFleur elected to go for it on 4th & 6, but Tom moved early on the offensive line causing a 5-yard penalty. The Packers punt it after that, and it goes out of bounds at the 10-yard line. Philadelphia will start with the ball on their own 10 with 11:40 remaining in the first, the score still even at zero.

8:22 p.m. — On 3rd & 6 on the Eagles 38, Love slings a pass up the middle deep to Reed who breaks a tackle and runs it in for a touchdown. However, multiple flags were thrown and penalties were called on both teams—12 men on the field on both sides. The score was taken off the board and the down was replayed.

8:20 p.m. — After losing one yard on a run up the middle by Jacobs, Love makes his first completion of the season to Doubs to get the Packers to their own 39 for 3rd & 6. Then, with no huddle, Love completes another pass to Doubs who carries it to the Eagles 42 for a first down.

8:17 p.m. — Green Bay won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff, which goes for a touchback. A flag is thrown on the play and the penalty goes against Philadelphia for an illegal formation, giving the Packers the ball at their own 35.

Pregame

8:12 p.m. — Olympic gymnast Rebecca Andrade is present on the field during the Brazilian national anthem.

8:10 p.m. — Teams have made their entrances and pregame festivities are taking place, including anthems. Both the American and Brazilian flags are being displayed on the field.

8 p.m. — We are 15 minutes from kickoff now and the arena is bumping with fans. Running back Josh Jacobs makes his debut for the Packers tonight and is eyeing a bizarre record. Through six years in the NFL, all spent with the Raiders, he has 197 receptions and no receiving touchdowns. He only needs five catches to become the all-time leader in career catches without a single score in the air.

7:55 p.m. — The last time these two teams met was late November 2022, when Philadelphia beat Green Bay 40-33. That game, Hurts took on now-New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in one of his final games as a Packer. He bested the veteran and improved the Eagles’ record to 10-1 in a season where the team eventually competed in a Super Bowl.

7:45 p.m. — Saquon Barkley has emerged in his Eagles threads. He’ll play his first game for the team tonight after spending six seasons with the New York Giants. Last year, Barkley amassed 962 yards on 247 carries for six touchdowns on the ground along with four scores in the air.

7:30 p.m. — The temperature in Sao Paulo tonight is a mild 63 degrees Farenheit with 84 percent humidity as both teams warm up on the field. With 45 minutes to go until kickoff, the Eagles are favored to beat the Packers by 2.5 points.

6:55 p.m. — The Eagles and Packers have both announced their lists of inactive players for tonight. Running back Emanuel Wilson and tight end Tucker Kraft, both of whom were questionable this week, will suit up for Green Bay. There aren’t a ton of surprises on Philadelphia’s side, but some are questioning the decision to keep 3rd round pick Jalyx Hunt on the sidelines for Week 1.

6:35 p.m. — Both teams are fitted up ahead of their matchup in Sao Paulo. Fans have been lined up outside the stadium for several hours already, ready to pack the Arena Corinthians to the brim for South America’s first NFL game.
