Generals vs. Stallions live score, updates, highlights from the new USFL’s first game

By | April 16, 2022

The USFL returns Saturday with a prime-time matchup that leads into an all-day tripleheader on Easter Sunday.

The season will begin with the New Jersey Generals taking on the hometown Birmingham Stallions. The game will be played in Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.

BENDER: What happened to the original USFL?

The Generals boast a familiar name at running back in former Ohio State star Mike Weber. Weber, who ran for 2,676 yards in three seasons with the Buckeyes, is expected to be a standout for New Jersey after starting quarterback Ben Holmes was injured and then released.

Alex McGough is at the helm for the Stallions. McGough threw for just over 9,000 yards at Florida International, and he’ll look to continue that success under Stallions head coach Skip Holtz, son of Lou Holtz. Skip Holtz is coming off eight seasons of coaching Louisiana Tech.

The Sporting News is providing live updates of the Generals and Stallions opening the new USFL’s first season.
