After fighting across social media, Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia are finally ready to finally settle their rivalry in the ring.
Davis, the WBA (Regular) lightweight champion, and Garcia announced on social media that a catchweight fight between the two will take place on April 22. That is a week after the initial proposed date of April 15. Las Vegas will hold the fight, inside the T-Mobile Arena.
In November, Davis and Garcia announced that they would fight one another. Since then, contract negotiations, broadcasting rights, and rematch clauses halted the fight from being made. With DAZN and Showtime hosting the fight via a PPV format, all issues have been resolved.

A 2012 Golden Gloves champion, Davis made his pro debut in 2013. A multi-division champion, Davis won the WBA (Regular) lightweight title against Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019. Davis’ last bout was a TKO win in January against Hector Luis Garcia.

Davis managed to avoid one hurdle in order for this fight to happen. “Tank” appeared in court for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident in November 2020. He pled guilty to four traffic offenses. With a judge rejecting a plea agreement, Davis will be sentenced on May 5. He is facing 14 charges after being accused of fleeing the scene of an accident that involved multiple people, including a pregnant woman.
Davis could face up to seven years in prison over the incident if charged. However, that will not affect the Garcia fight.
Garcia made his pro debut in 2016. The 24-year-old beat Luke Campbell in 2021 to win the interim WBC lightweight title. He took a bit of a break from boxing shortly after. In April 2021, he was supposed to fight Javier Fortuna but ended up working on his mental health. Later, he would undergo hand surgery. “KingRy” returned last April, beating Emmanuel Tagoe via unanimous decision.
Garcia’s last fight was against Fortuna in July, beating him via TKO. He has 19 wins via knockout, and decided to forgo a fight in January in order to focus on Davis.
