LAS VEGAS — Former WBO super middleweight titleholder Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez makes the trek up to cruiserweight to face former WBO light heavyweight champion Joe Smith Jr. in the main event at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan, live on DAZN.
Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) returns to action after suffering the first loss of his professional career against Dmitry Bivol last November. Nearly a full year later, “Zurdo” hopes to get back to his winning ways against a former champion who is also venturing up to cruiserweight for the first time.
Smith Jr. (28-4, 22 KOs) also suffered a loss at the hands of Bivol but won the WBO light heavyweight title in 2021 with a majority decision over Maxim Vlasov. He made one successful title defence before being stopped in the second round by unified champion Artur Beterbiev last June.
It’s a crossroad fights of sorts for both Ramirez and Smith Jr. as each needs to get back into the win column and cannot afford to suffer consecutive losses for the first time in their career.
