The Los Angeles Chargers added to their wide receiver room in a big way and this year’s selections, Tre Harris and Keandre Lambert-Smith, could seriously push some of the veterans already on the roster.
In the case of Lambert-Smith, he won’t be able to be a do-it-all receiver at the next level, but he won’t need to be. He has tremendous speed and the ability to get separation on a consistent basis down the field. Derius Davis has flashed potential for the team, but it just hasn’t been consistent enough.
Justin Herbert needs a player he can find down the field in a pinch and while the Chargers have tried some mystifying options for that role such as Jalen Reagor, Lambert-Smith has all of the ability to be that guy.
He began his college career at Penn State before transferring to Auburn for his final season. He is the nephew of former Pro Bowl and All-Pro safety Kam Chancellor and though not as dynamic, he might remind you of Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith due to his build.
AWESOME pick for the #Chargers in WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith
In talking to NFL personnel, he had one of, if not the, best week of any @ShrineBowl WR during practices.
At Auburn this year, was a top-5 WR this year at the P5 level in yard per route run, 20+ yard catches and yards… pic.twitter.com/rjPzwNgYWv

The Chargers have Harris to push Mike Williams and Quentin Johnston on the outside. Lambert-Smith has a chance to assume the role of speedy, gadget guy who can take the top off the defense the way Davis has not shown a regular ability to do.
This was a good pick by the Chargers that could easily turn into a great one.
