The Cleveland Guardians won 92 games during the regular season and cruised to their second division title in the last three years. They were ultimately stopped in the ALCS by the New York Yankees.
With David Fry expected to miss some time next season, the Guardians could use a little bit of help on the offensive side.
Jurickson Profar finally had an All-Star caliber season in 2024 and is now a free agent. The Athletic listed the super utility man as a possible fit for the Guardians.
“It took more than a decade after he was baseball’s No. 1 prospect, but Profar finally had an All-Star season. Available for just $1 million last offseason thanks to a terrible 2023 campaign, Profar blew away his previous career highs in nearly every major category by combining elite-level hard-hit metrics with one of the league’s lowest strikeout rates.”
Profar hit .280 with 24 home runs, 85 RBI and an .839 OPS. He also swiped 10 bags, posted a 134 OPS+ and a 3.6 Wins Above Replacement.
The 32-year-old could be in line for a multi-year deal this coming offseason. While the Guardians don’t often spend on free agents, adding Profar to the mix would make sense. He’s a switch hitter that can play multiple defensive positions as well.
The Guardians could benefit from having his bat in the lineup, especially after the offense let them down in the ALCS. We’ll see if they are in the mix for him.
