Cleveland and Detroit have been baseball rivals for time eternal, and they’ll face off again in the 2024 American League Division Series.
The two franchises were charter members of the American League in 1901 and have played each other more than any other team. Detroit holds a 1,159-1,155 edge in the remarkably close all-time series, with Cleveland holding a 7-6 advantage so far this season.
The AL Central champion Guardians enter the ALDS well-rested, which history has shown can be a blessing or a curse. Led as always by Jose Ramirez, they won 92 regular-season games under rookie manager Stephen Vogt and are looking to advance past the division series for the first time since 2016.
While Cleveland is set to make its 2024 postseason debut, the Tigers enter the ALDS on a serious roll. After a remarkable run through September to clinch a wild-card spot, they stunned the Astros with a two-game sweep to move on as their array of relievers and mix-and-match lineup got the job done once again.
These two teams know each other well. Who will prevail in a classic matchup? The Sporting News has you covered with everything you need to know about Guardians vs. Tigers in the ALDS.
