Once again, a Canelo Alvarez fight will be taking place on PPV. This time, he will be facing one of his biggest rivals in Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.

The Canelo experience under DAZN has resulted in several PPV events, Initially, DAZN said that PPV was a broken model in boxing.

Regarding the decision for Canelo’s fight against Dmitry Bivol to be on PPV a few months back, DAZN went on to say, “For the very occasional events such as this that necessitate PPV, we now have the flexibility to explore fighters, mega fights & innovative partnerships previously impossible.”

Holders of multiple titles in the middleweight division, Canelo and Golovkin will compete for Canelo’s WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super-middleweight titles. The two first fought in 2017, with the bout ending in a controversial split decision draw. They competed in a rematch in 2018, which was delayed by a few months after Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. Canelo won via majority decision.

Why is the Canelo vs. GGG 3 boxing fight on PPV?

This is a rare occurrence when registering for a DAZN account won’t be the only way to watch a fight. The fight is between two of the best boxers in the world, something Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn believes is a good reason to tune in.

“The Canelo vs. GGG trilogy is the biggest fight in boxing and I am delighted to get this made for September 17,” said Hearn in a release. “These are two men that bitterly dislike each other and want to end this incredible series with a blistering KO.

“I truly believe this will be the most thrilling fight between these two great champions and it will be fireworks from the first bell to the last man standing.”

The previous two fights between the two combined for over 2,400,000 PPV buys.

In Canada, the cost of the DAZN PPV will be $64.99 for current subscribers and $89.98 for new subscribers. 

Customers in the U.K. can sign up for DAZN for £7.99 per month. The fight will cost £9.99 for current subscribers and £17.98 for new subscribers.
