Manchester City will look to return to winning ways as they travel to relegation-threatened Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s side have tentatively emerged from their winter slump, to go five games unbeaten across all competitions, although surrendering a late 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Brentford in midweek highlighted their remaining frailties.
Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are expected to complete transfers to Manchester in the coming days, although the big signing at the Etihad Stadium this week was Erling Haaland penning a huge nine-and-a-half-year contract extension. Haaland is set to lead the line for the visitors at Portman Road, where former City youngster Liam Delap will be keen to impress against his old employers.
Saturday’s results dropped champions City down to eighth in the Premier League table, although they could climb as high as fifth with victory here. Ipswich are third bottom but only in the drop zone based on goals scored.

1 hr 15 mins before kickoff: The teams are in and City are boosted by the surprise return of influential defender Ruben Dias in the starting XI. That’s offset by Nathan Ake being an absentee from the matchday squad. The other changes from the team that drew with Brentford as Ilkay Gunodgan coming in for Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku replacing Savinho and, between the posts, Ederson getting the nod over Stefan Ortega, who was subjected to some immediate and vociferous post-match analysis from Guardiola at the G-Tech Stadium.

1 hr 35 mins before kickoff: Confirmed line-ups will be with us in a about 20 minutes and it will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola sticks with what has become a tried and trusted formula of late. Consistent team selection has been tricky this season on account of City’s form and fitness woes, but Phil Foden is back in the goals off the right flank and Savinho has located some form by switching the left. Throw in Kevin De Bruyne looking far more like his old self in the Brentford game and there’s a strong case for that trio continuing in support of Erling Haaland.

2 hours before kickoff. Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of Ipswich Town vs. Manchester City. Saturday’s results dropped Pep Guardiola’s side down to eighth in the table. The defending champions will try to vault themselves back up towards the Champions League places against a Ipswich team who will move out of the relegation zone if they avoid defeat.

Forwards Sammie Szmodics and Omari Hutchinson both have knocks and are doubtful for this one. Meanwhile, Conor Chaplin, Axel Tuanzebe and Chiedozie Ogbene are among the long-term absentees for Kieran McKenna’s men.
In-form striker Liam Delap should lead the Tractor Boys’ line against his former employers.

City, of course, have key midfielder Rodri out in the long term and have been battling various other injury issues this season – causing headaches for Guardiola. Ruben Dias and John Stones are expected to remain sidelined, although the former did return to training this week.
Guardiola will likely stick with Stefan Ortega in goal, with his options limited when it comes to the defenders in front of him. Club captain Kyle Walker is once again unlikely to feature after expressing a desire to leave City in this transfer window.
Savinho and Phil Foden will probably keep their spots in attack after returning to form of late.
Man City predicted starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Ortega (GK) — Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol — De Bruyne, Kovacic, Silva — Foden, Haaland, Savinho
Injured: Rodri, Dias, Stones, Bobb.
