It’s been a slow start to Javonte Williams’ “comeback” season, and a hip injury suffered in Week 4 only made things worse. After missing last week, Williams is once again looking “questionable” for Week 6’s Thursday Night Football matchup in Kansas City. His fantasy football owners might be hoping he stays out one more game, but either way, knowing the latest updates will be key ahead of your first start ’em, sit ’em decision of the week.
We’ll continue to update this article with news on Williams until the official active/inactive report comes out on Thursday around 6:45 p.m. ET.
Is Javonte Williams playing Thursday night Week 6?
Williams (hip) missed most of Week 4 and all of Week 5 while recovering from a hip flexor injury, but he was reportedly close to playing last week, with the final call to rule him out not coming until just before game time. Sean Payton said earlier this week that if it had been a playoff game, Williams could have played. That would seem to bode well for Williams’ chances of suiting up on Thursday night against the Chiefs, and he started off the week with limited practices on Monday (estimated) and Tuesday.
WEEK 6 PPR RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers
Williams has struggled to find his footing after tearing an ACL last year. He’s yet to top 52 yards or score a touchdown in any game this year, and a matchup against a Chiefs’ defense that’s allowed just 97.2 rushing yards per game and one rushing TD all season doesn’t figure to help. He’s yet to see more than 45 percent of snaps in a game, too, so if he’s active, he can’t be counted on for much more than low-end flex value.
WEEK 6 STANDARD RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers
If Williams is out, Samaje Perine and Jaleel McLaughlin will split touches again. Perine saw 17 more snaps last week, but McLaughlin had the same number of touches (12), 11 more total yards (89 to 78), and the lone RB touchdown. Normally, we’d recommend the back getting more playing time, but McLaughlin has clearly outplayed Perine two weeks in a row and gets just as many touches. He has a higher ceiling and is the preferred play if you have both, but if Williams is out, both can be considered mid-tier flexes despite the relatively tough matchup.
