Is Tommy DeVito related to Danny DeVito? Explaining relationship between Giants QB, famous actor

By | December 11, 2023

The Giants are down to their third-string quarterback after a wave of injuries. The guy who’s played has been a sub above the rest.

Tommy DeVito has taken the league by storm, thanks in part to his nickname โ€” Tommy Cutlets โ€” and his unique backstory. It’s also helped that since a shaky debut against the Jets, he’s been solid for the Giants, having completed 62.9 percent of his passes for 697 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions, all while leading New York to back-to-back wins.

When most people hear the name, “DeVito,” however, they’re still not yet likely to think of Tommy. They’d be more likely to think of the actor appearing in Jersey Mike’s commercials during NFL games and one of the stars of the hit FX show, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” veteran actor Danny DeVito.

Is there any relation between the New York quarterback and the New Jersey actor? Here’s what you need to know.

Is Tommy DeVito related to Danny DeVito?

To date, there is no link that shows Tommy DeVito and Danny DeVito are related. Still, it’s easy to see why some might think they are.

First, there’s the obvious: the last name. Both have the last name of DeVito. According to Forebears, there are just over 11,000 people in the United States with the last name of DeVito.

But it’s not just the last name. It’s also that they’re both from New Jersey. Danny DeVito was born in Neptune Township and raised in Asbury Park. Tommy DeVito was born in Livingston and lives with his family in Cedar Grove. Neptune Township and Asbury Park are both just over an hour drive from Livingston and Cedar Grove.

Those two by themselves certainly make it understandable why some would think the two are related. However, it’s just a coincidence that they happen to be two well-known DeVitos from New Jersey.

Tommy DeVito parents

Tommy DeVito’s parents are Tom and Alexandra DeVito.

What has caught the attention of much of the league is that despite being off to the NFL, DeVito still goes back home to his parents’ house every day.

ESPN reported that since DeVito plays for his hometown team and began the season on the practice squad, it was a “no-brainer” that he would live with his parents.

“Everything that I need is there at the house,” DeVito said, per ESPN. “The decision was made since this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position. There is a lot going on, a lot of meetings. So everything outside of football is handled by my family.

“I don’t have to worry about laundry, what I’m eating for dinner, chicken cutlets and all that is waiting for me when I get there. My mom still makes my bed. Everything is handled for me. Honestly, I don’t even know if I could find a place closer to here than where I live. It takes me 12 minutes to get here.”
