Jamaica vs Brazil prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Women’s World Cup group match

By | August 1, 2023

Brazil are chasing a knockout stage spot as they take on surprise contenders Jamaica in their Group F finale in Melbourne, Australia.

The South American side pummeled Panama 4-0 in their opener, but a heartbreaking late defeat to France last time out left them at a surprising disadvantage heading into the final round of group games.

Jamaica, on the other hand, have avoided defeat in their opening two matches, holding France to a 0-0 draw and topping Panama 1-0 to see them hold the cards in this matchup. Sitting on four points, Jamaica need just a draw to advance, while Brazil must win to reach the knockout stage.

It’s no doubt a shocking situation, but these 90 minutes will be difficult for Jamaica to navigate, and they’ll be under heavy pressure from Brazil throughout the game.

Jamaica vs Brazil prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Brazil (-500)
  • Score prediction: Jamaica 1-3 Brazil

Betting this game is extremely difficult because the odds simply do not reflect the job that Jamaica has done to this point. The selections are so wildly skewed in Brazil’s favor, that any palatable selection on Brazil must be juiced hard, almost to unrealistic expectations.

It would, quite simply, be a shock to see Brazil exit in the group stage. They have played some utterly delicious football at times through their first two matches, and while a late winner by France certainly dampens spirits and leaves them with a job to do here, they should manage to get it done.

It will be no cakewalk, as France found out in the opener, but it’s hard to imagine this talented Brazil side bowing out in favor of Jamaica. While the South Americans aren’t a true threat to win the tournament, they should be quarterfinal participants, and part of that is escaping the group stage with minimal damage.

Jamaica vs Brazil: best bet

  • Pick: Brazil -1.5 goal handicap
  • Odds: -160 (BetMGM)

Despite what they’ve done this tournament, I just can’t trust this Jamaica defense. The CONCACAF side couldn’t stop a cold coming into this tournament, and somehow they have yet to concede a single goal through two matches.

Jamaica shut out Morocco in their final tune-up friendly before the tournament, showing signs of life, but prior to that, they conceded seven to Mexico, five to El Salvador, three to Australia, three to the Czech Republic, three to Spain, and two to Paraguay dating back to November of last year.

France had 14 shots, including five on target, in their scoreless draw, which should have been more than enough to find the back of the net. Indeed, three of their opportunities were labeled “big chances,” and only poor finishing let them down. Brazil, who managed to breach that quality France back line, should be able to score multiple here and secure a knockout stage spot.

Jamaica vs Brazil: flier bet

  • Pick: Kadija Shaw anytime goal scorer
  • Odds: +400 (BetMGM)

Conventional wisdom says Jamaica will play for the draw, but sitting back and inviting this Brazil team to pick you apart is asking for trouble. Instead, Jamaica should play with attacking intent, at least through the first 45 minutes.

With Kadija “Bunny” Shaw back from her red card suspension, this Jamaica team should have opportunities up front. They managed just six shots against France, but Shaw had three of them before she was dismissed late. Brazil looked beatable against France, conceding a whopping 19 shots, including seven on target, and even half of that would give Jamaica a real chance of finding a goal.

Jamaica are +130 to get even one goal, which in and of itself is a great play, but if they are going to net against Brazil, it will likely come via their talismanic striker, who scored a sensational 20 goals in 22 games for Manchester City this past WSL season and is in electric form. Take the significant odds boost by backing the likely goal scorer for the underdogs in this match, rather than placing a wager on the team as a whole.
