A rising star at welterweight, 26-year-old Jaron Ennis is ready to take over the division. While he waits to face the winner of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford on July 29, “Boots” has his own task to complete on July 8.
Ennis defends the interim IBF welterweight title against Roiman Villa. The fight is inside The Ballroom in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall and airs on Showtime.
With 27 of his 30 wins coming via knockout, Ennis has made himself a force in the division. He has handled himself well against Sergey Lipinets, Thomas Dulorme, Custio Clayton, and Karen Chukhadzhian. Considered the next generation, the confident Ennis wants to prove it on Saturday night.
“A victory over Villa keeps me going toward my goal. A lot of people say that he’s a power puncher, but we’ll see on Saturday night,” Ennis said. “I’m coming to make a big statement and get a stoppage. It’s the ‘Boots’ Ennis show now. I’m gonna go out there and have fun. I’m gonna set up the knockout and be sharp and box beautifully.”

Villa turned pro in 2015. Ennis’ point of Villa being a power puncher holds value: he had a 19-fight knockout streak that ended in 2022. The Colombian recently beat Rashidi Ellis and is ready to take out another top fighter in Ennis.
“When you get an opportunity to fight a world-class fighter like Ennis, you have to take that chance,” Villa said. “It’s my duty to go after the toughest challenges and take advantage of opportunities like this. I’m not afraid of anybody.”
