By | November 12, 2023

Jayden Daniels’ Heisman candidacy took a great leap forward on Saturday, with the LSU star showcasing every part of his eclectic toolkit en route to another Tigers win. In the process, he grabbed himself a piece of NCAA history.

Daniels, the fifth-year sensation, accounted for over 600 yards of total offense as LSU captured its seventh victory of the year, a 52-35 beatdown over Florida. He added five scores — three in the air, two on the ground — to cement his status as one of the Heisman’s frontrunners.

Daniels was the architect of everything that went well for LSU on Saturday. He was a bundle of joy whether in the pocket or out of it, bursting through the mire with vigor and elusive when placing the ball underneath his chest. And all of that amounted to a historic day at the office for the Tigers standout, who etched his name in the record books with a showing for the ages.

Here’s what you need to know about Daniels’ scintillating day under the sun.

Jayden Daniels stats today

Daniels was a worthy adversary for the Gators defense, running for 234 yards and two scores on just 12 carries. It was a Madden-like showcase, the Tigers’ hurler rumbling and bumbling to leave a trail of limbs in his wake.

There was his 85-yard scamper, a play in which he simply outpaced all contestants as he rounded the bend.

He added another lengthy touchdown, this one from 51 yards out, to further shatter Floridians’ hearts.

But that wasn’t all for Daniels. LSU’s super senior signal-caller completed 17 of 26 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. Much like his rushing scores, Daniels tended to have a flair for the dramatic when he found space:

In the end, it was just the sort of display that will ring along the hollowed Colosseum walls of Tiger Stadium. Daniels became the first player in FBS history to 350+ pass yards and 200 rush yards in the same game. Daniels now sits No. 1 all-time in single game yardage among SEC players with his performance in Baton Rouge.

Not too shabby for a player only two years removed from a 10-touchdown, 10-interception campaign with Arizona State.
