Week 1 did not go as planned for Bengals QB Joe Burrow.
The Cincinnati quarterback made his first start since Week 11 of last season when he hurt a ligament in his wrist and missed the rest of the season. Facing a Patriots projected to be closer to the No. 1 overall pick in 2025 than a playoff spot, Burrow and Co. could not muster up much against a strong defensive unit, falling to New England 16-10.
Burrow was efficient in the passing game, but he did not flash or find big plays. The QB finished 21-for-29 for 164 yards with no touchdowns, continuing his trend of falling short in NFL season openers.
While he played a full game and never appeared to be hurt, a new video is making the rounds on social media that have fans thinking the 27-year-old may not be operating at 100% health.
Here is more to know on Burrow’s potential injury.

Joe Burrow injury update
Burrow never left Sunday’s loss against the Patriots, and it never appeared as though anything was bothering him. However, a clip taken during the game has viewers wondering about his wrist.
In the video, Burrow is seen grabbing at his right wrist, flexing it on occasion. He also was viewed picking up a Gatorade bottle that has people speculating he is struggling with his grip strength.

Burrow was asked about the video Wednesday after practice. The quarterback brushed aside the question, denying that his wrist is prohibiting him from making throws.
“What did I do?” Burrow asked the reporter when inquired about the clip. “Oh I picked [the bottle] up weird?
“I drink water. I can’t say I have seen that or know what anyone is talking about.”

Bengals QB depth chart
QB Rank | Name |
1 | Joe Burrow |
2 | Jake Browning |
1. Joe Burrow
When healthy, there’s no doubting who the No. 1 signal-caller in Cincinnati is. Burrow has been the starter for the Bengals since he was drafted first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of LSU. In his short career, he’s brought the Bengals to a Super Bowl and two AFC Championships already.
However, injuries remain a concern with Burrow, who has had two seasons cut short as he starts his fifth year in the NFL.
2. Jake Browning
Browning is the backup for Burrow for the fourth season in a row. He signed with Cincinnati in 2021, and has been QB2 for a majority of that time.
The 28-year-old got his first taste of NFL action in 2023 when Burrow went down for the season with the wrist injury. Browning started seven games for the Bengals, completing 70.4% of his passes for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He helped the team finish above .500 on the year, but Cincinnati came up short of a spot in the postseason.
