Mexican great Juan Francisco Estrada defends his WBC and Ring Magazine super flyweight titles against pound-for-pound hotshot Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez on June 29 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will stream on DAZN.
Estrada (44-3, 28 KOs) has been out of action since December 2022. However, in his most recent fight, the 34-year-old boxer-puncher scored a second triumph over fellow legend Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez to rubber-stamp his greatness in the sport.
“I consider myself to be a very complete boxer. I can go out, I can pressure, I can brawl. I don’t think Bam is going to have it easy,” said Estrada on Matchroom’s “Make the Days Count” pre-fight documentary.
“I think Bam Rodriguez has to be willing to die because I’m willing to give it all up in the ring. And this is one fight I’m not going to let go.”
Bam (19-0, 12 KOs) is 10 years younger but very accomplished. A two-weight world champion, the Texas-born challenger is coming off a sensational stoppage win over the previously unbeaten Sunny Edwards in December. This would be his biggest victory to date.
“When our styles collide, it’s going to make for fireworks, and whoever is tuned in is going to see something special,” promised the challenger. “People are going to see the best Bam Rodriguez to date.”
