Jurickson Profar suspension, explained: Braves OF hit with 80-game ban after violating MLB’s PED policy

By | March 31, 2025

Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar reportedly tested positive for a substance banned by Major League Baseball and will be suspended, according to MLB insider Mike Rodriguez reported the news first.

The Braves were swept by the Padres in a four-game series to open the season, and they now could be without their starting left fielder for 80-games, which is the minimum suspension for a first time offender of MLB’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Profar, a former top prospect, had a strong season with San Diego in 2024, slashing .280/.380/.459 with a career-high 24 home runs, 29 doubles, 85 RBIs and 94 runs. He joined the Braves as a free-agent this offseason on a three-year, $42 million contract.

Here is why Atlanta could be without Profar for nearly half of its season in 2025.

Why was Jurickson Profar suspensed?

Profar will reportedly be suspended for testing positive for a substance banned by the MLB.

It is unclear at this time which banned substance he took, and the report has yet to be confirmed by the Braves or MLB.

If the banned substance is a PED, there is an 80-game suspension ahead for Profar. The MLB has different protocols for “drugs of abuse” and “stimulants.”.

This report comes after the Braves made a trade to acquire more outfield depth today, receiving Stuart Fairchild from the Reds in exchange for cash considerations.
