So much can happen for the Philadelphia 76ers at the NBA trade deadline. The Sixers are in an interesting position. After starting the season as the No. 11 seed in the Eastern Conference, they could either trade for some help or pack it in for the season.
With KJ Martin now trade-eligible, there are so many players Philadelphia could acquire. If they decide to go the other way, the Sixers could trade some of their guys, like Caleb Martin.
If it comes to that, Bleacher Report floated Martin as the Sacramento Kings’ dream trade target. The Kings have been on the up and up since firing Mike Brown, having won seven of their nine games since parting ways with the former Coach of the Year.
Adding Martin to their playoff push could make things even better for them.
Financially, Martin would not be too difficult to acquire from the Sixers. He’s in the first year of a four-year, $35 million contract. Making a little over $8 million this season in Philadelphia, the Kings have the contracts to make a trade work.
But what would the Sixers want in return?
The only way the Sixers would trade Martin is if they believe the season is over and would be better off without him. However, no reports have confirmed that.
If it comes to that, the Kings have some players that could interest the Sixers. Kevin Huerter is in the middle of a disappointing season, but he’s still one of the NBA’s premier sharpshooters. The Sixers have sorely missed a sharpshooter since losing Buddy Hield, and Huerter could fill that void.
A deal in which the Sixers trade the Martins for Huerter could benefit both teams. However, Caleb will remain with the Sixers until further notice.
