LeBron James makes announcement on Mavericks winning draft lottery after Luka Doncic trade

By | May 12, 2025

LeBron James isn’t afraid to speak his mind on social media.

James, who began the 2025 offseason prematurely after the Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in their first-round playoff series, made it clear on Monday night that he was tuned into the NBA Draft lottery.

Minutes after the Dallas Mavericks secured the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft despite possessing 1.8% odds, James posted a tweet with nine laughing emojis, exhibiting his amusement with how the night unfolded.

Thanks to the Mavericks’ head-scratching decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Lakers on Feb. 2, James received an opportunity to play alongside one of the most brilliant young players in the NBA.

Although Los Angeles’ postseason showing is one to forget, James and Doncic built valuable chemistry over time, improving their chances of putting it all together in 2025-26.

Conversely, the Mavericks experienced a downward spiral after the confusing midseason deal. Devastating injuries and a lack of rhythm prevented Dallas from making the playoffs, which is why they ultimately found themselves in the draft lottery.

It’s reasonable to assume James is aware the Mavericks will likely select Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 draft class, with the first pick. This would allow the franchise to quickly get back on track after moving on from Doncic three months ago.

It’s always interesting to see how things shake up in the NBA after a groundbreaking move occurs.

James may still be upset that his NBA title quest with Doncic and the Lakers fell short this year, but his recent social media behavior suggests he’s in good spirits.
