Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown reacts to ‘Remember the Titans’-themed message from fantasy football owner: ‘I’m at a loss for words’

NFL players typically don’t care to hear from fans about their fantasy teams, but Amon-Ra St. Brown shared a rare exception to that rule on Tuesday.

St. Brown, a second-year receiver for the Lions, posted on his Instagram story that he had received an inspirational message from one of his fantasy owners on Tuesday.

Some may have initially viewed the message as strange and aggressive. St. Brown wrote that it put him “at a loss for words.”

Below is the full text of the message the fan sent to St. Brown.

Congrats, you have been selected to my fantasy team. With that being said, I want to establish some ground rules.

We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football, and I will break off my foot in your John Brown hind parts, and then you will run a mile. Perfection.

It’s understandable that some would be puzzled by that remark, but many quickly realized that they recognized the latter half of it. Indeed, the fan was quoting a speech from the classic football movie “Remember the Titans.”

The scene comes when Denzel Washington’s character — coach Herman Boone — is setting expectations for his team at the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School in 1971. He makes it clear that anything less than perfection won’t be tolerated.

With that established, the message to St. Brown is significantly less odd. In fact, the fantasy owner who delivered the note to the Lions receiver deserves a hat tip for making the reference and getting St. Brown to respond to it.

Perhaps St. Brown will take the correspondence to heart and strive for true perfection in 2022. He was near-perfect as a rookie, recording 973 yards and six touchdowns on 97 touchdowns without a fumble. He did, however, drop two of his 119 targets, so that will be the final area he must clean up in order to live up to the standards set by his fantasy owner.
