Liverpool injury update
Thiago Alcantara
- Injury: Hamstring
- Out since: Feb. 23
The Spanish midfielder was set to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Feb. 27, but was withdrawn from the matchday squad in the warmup, following a hamstring issue. The last-minute withdrawal left him in tears on the bench.
A player whose career at Liverpool has been injury-plagued, he had been involved in six straight games before the injury. Thiago also missed the FA Cup win against Norwich City and the Premier League game against West Ham.
However, he has since returned to the starting lineup, playing 65 minutes of the Reds’ 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in midweek Champions League action. It remains to be seen whether he will be rested on Saturday given that he didn’t manage to make training on Thursday.

Roberto Firmino
- Injury: Groin
- Out since: Feb. 16
Firmino also missed the Carabao Cup victory and the subsequent games against Norwich and West Ham as he was suffering from a muscle problem that began in the first leg against Inter Milan on Feb. 16. At the time, Klopp said that the forward was likely to be out for “a while”.
The striker is now back in training but he wasn’t deemed to be fit enough to face Inter in midweek due to the length of time he has been out. Nevertheless, Klopp has confirmed that the striker is set to return to action away to Brighton, in some news that will no doubt delight Liverpool supporters.
Roberto Firmino is set to return to action for #LFC against #BHAFC on Saturday — but Jurgen Klopp revealed they have some fresh issues with COVID-19.

Ibrahima Konate
- Injury: Undisclosed
- Out since: Mar. 8
Konate was left out of the UEFA Champions League match against Inter Milan on March 8 after picking up a knock during the week.
Only time will tell whether he will be involved against Brighton after not participating in training on Thursday alongside Thiago and Virgil van Dijk (below).
Virgil Van Dijk
- Injury: Undisclosed
- Out since: N/A
The Dutchman did not take part in training on Thursday, though this may just be a precautionary measure after the exertion during his side’s UEFA Champions League clash.
Klopp made it clear that for the players who did not participate in training on Thursday — Van Dijk, Konate and Thiago — it apparently wasn’t due to injury.
“So far I didn’t get any news,” he told media on Friday, hinting COVID could be at play. “Injury-wise, so far, I think they should be ready.”
