ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL β Liverpool are looking to put a shock Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest quickly behind them when they host struggling Leeds United.
The Reds’ topsy-turvy start to the new season continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Steve Cooper’s men last Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s team eased the pain somewhat with a 3-0 midweek win at Ajax that sealed a place in the last-16 of the Champions League.
And they could barely have hand-picked a better fixture on their return to domestic action than one against a Leeds side who have not won since August and have lost six of their past eight outings.

Liverpool vs. Leeds United live updates, highlights from Premier League
89th min: GOAL! LEEDS HAVE SURELY WON IT!!!
Gnoto’s cross into the box falls to Summerville after a Bamford touch and the Leeds man shows brilliant close control before poking in at the far pojst – a briliant finish.
86th min: Salah gets in behind on the left but his shot across goal is well saved by Meslier down low to the goalkeeper’s left.
79th min: Nunez works a yard of space and curls one to the far corner but a great fingertip save from Meslier denies him.
74th min: Curtis Jones picks up the ball on the break but his attempted pass through to Salah is a poor one and the Anfield crowd let him know.
Leeds will be delighted to hear that discontent.
66th min: Those changes haven’t done much to help the hosts, who have been second best since the start of the second half.
Leeds aren’t allowing them to get out and, though that hasn’t quite translated to big chances, they still look the likelier to get another.
60th min: A double change for Liverpool as Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones replace Fabinho and Harvey Elliott respectively.
52nd min: Leeds bringing on Patrick Bamford, who takes the place of goalscorer Rodrigo.
46th min: Liverpool get the game restarted through Harvey Elliott.
HALFTIME: The whistle sounds at Anfield and Liverpool and Leeds go in level at the break.
What a fantastic half of football that was, with chances for both sides, aggression, and some lovely passages of play.
Can the second half live up to those high standards? Let’s hope so.
45th min: Rodrigo scampers away on the break but his low, left-footed effort is well held by Alisson in the end.
This has been an absolutely breathless first half.
41st min: Elliott takes down a Meslier punch at the edge of the box but smashes his shot high and wide of the Leeds goal.
Not happening for Liverpool at the moment.
32nd min: Nunez nods a loose ball into the path of Salah, but the Egyptian’s first touch isn’t tight enough and Kristensen gets in to clear.
Moments later, Nunez is in behind from an Alexander-Arnold pass but takes too long in making a decision and allows Meslier to clear.
21st min: Leeds hit the bar!
It’s a beauty of a curling cross into the box but Aaronson can only smash the woodwork with his left-footed volley attempt.
This has been an unbelievable start.
14th min: GOAL! Liverpool level it up!
The Reds win a corner thanks to their best passage of play so far and then make the most of it at the second attempt.
The goal comes courtesy of Salah, who finishes on the volley after Robertson sends the ball back into the box from the left-hand side.

Alisson slips just as Gomez plays a backpass in his direction and that sets up a tap-in into an empty net for a delighted Rodrigo.

KICKOFF: We’re under way at Anfield – and Liverpool almost score in the first minute!
Salah latches onto a ball in behind and shoots goalward with Meslier stranded but Struijk is on the line to head away.
10 mins to KO: Leeds fans making a racket in the away end as we near kick-off, they know their team will need them tonight.
45 mins to KO: So, it looks a lot like Jurgen Klopp is sticking with the diamond that served Liverpool well at Ajax (the first 25 minutes aside).
As for Leeds, it’s a massive call to leave Patrick Bamford on the bench given his importance to this team in recent seasons. Will it pay off?
1 hour to KO: Team news is in.
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Elliott, Thiago, Firmino, Salah, Nunez.
Leeds: Meslier, Kristensen, Koch, Cooper, Struijk, Adams, Roca, Harrison, Aaronson, Summerville, Rodrigo.
1 hour 20 mins to KO: Some big decisions for Jurgen Klopp to make today, particularly in light of a diamond midfield working well for Liverpool in midweek against Ajax.
Does he stick with that shape? And does the fit-again Thiago Alcantara come in?
1 hour 45 mins to KO: Liverpool may have struggled this season, but they start today’s game eight points behind fourth place and with two games in hand – not an insurmountable gap by any means.
However, they’ll need to start putting a run of wins together ASAP to put themselves back in Champions League contention, starting against Leeds United this evening.
2 hours to KO: Welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of Liverpool vs. Leeds United from Anfield. Can the hosts finally put a poor start to the season behind them or will Jesse Marsch’s men ignite their campaign with an overdue good result on the road?
Liverpool vs. Leeds United lineups
Jurgen Klopp makes one change to his starting XI from the midweek win over Ajax, with the fit-again Thiago Alcantara coming in to start in midfield.
That means Jordan Henderson drops to the bench despite having overcome the knock that forced him off in Amsterdam.
Liverpool lineup (4-3-3): Alisson (GK) β Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson β Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago β Firmino, Nunez, Salah
Subs: Kelleher, Konate, Milner, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Tsimikas, Carvlaho, Phillips
As for Leeds, they name Tyler Adams and Rodrigo in their team despite both having both been injury doubts, though Luis Sinisterra misses out entirely.
Patrick Bamford is only included on the bench in a perhaps surprising selection decision from Jesse Marsch.
Leeds lineup (4-2-3-1): Meslier (GK) β Kristensen, Koch, Cooper, Struijk β Adams, Roca β Summerville, Aaronson, Harrison β Rodrigo
Subs: Robles, Ayling, Firpo, Llorente, Greenwood, Klich, Gelhardt, Gnonto, Bamford
