After a wild first day of March Madness, in which a 15-seed upset a 2-ssed and a 13-seed took down a 4-seed, it was natural for fans to wonder what surprises Friday would have in store.
The answer for the early games? Not many. The higher seeds took care of business most of the afternoon. It took until Friday evening to get the first upset of the day: No. 11 Pitt over No. 6 Iowa State.

Pitt was the better team throughout, while Iowa State had a historically bad shooting day. It is the core of March: One bad game can knock a team out of the tournament.
Tha Panthers capitalized on the Iowa State’s struggles and despite having just three players score in double figures, it garnered a decisive victory.
March Madness 2023 Day 2 upsets
Through the afternoon games, there was just one upset, No. 11 Pitt taking down No. 6 Iowa State. Pitt is the third double-digit seed to advance and the first 11-seed to move on in March Madness 2023. No. 10 Penn State was similarly dominant over No. 7 Texas A&M on Thursday.

Credit to Pitt for getting the job done, but it’s hard to overstate how bad ISU looked in this game. The Cyclones shot 23.3 percent from the field, 2 for 21 from 3-point range. Pittsburgh wasn’t good from the field, either (14 for 41, 34.1 percent), but it did what it needed to do against an opponent that struggled more.
