The next great lefty quarterback in the NFL could be coming from Washington.
With the 2024 NFL Draft coming up in less than a month, NFL prospects are using their college’s pro days as the last chance to boost their draft stock ahead of this spring’s selections. One of the players looking to rise on draft boards is Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.
The 23-year-old quarterback for the Huskies was one of the best at his position last year in the NCAA. Penix’s excellent 2023 season helped Washington not only win the Pac-12 but make it to the national championship game, where the Huskies fell as the No. 2 seed to No. 1 seed Michigan.

Now Penix has his eyes on the NFL, and he is a part of a loaded QB class in 2024. The pro day gives the lefty QB one last chance to impress NFL scouts, potentially sneaking his way into the first round after throwing for 4,903 yards and 36 TDs in 2023.
The Sporting News is tracking Penix’s performance at his pro day Thursday. Check out the highlights below.

Penix is projected as a potential second-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Washington QB is considered to be in the second-tier of QBs behind Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy.
The Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer did not have Penix going in the first round in his latest mock draft, but he has Penix ranked as the No. 28 prospect on his latest big board.
“Penix delivers the ball downfield with a strong arm and great accuracy, and he can continue to work on making adequate mobility more of an asset in his game,” Iyer wrote.
