MLB live scores: Opening Day updates, results, highlights from 2024 baseball games

By | March 28, 2024

There might be two MLB games already in the books for 2024 thanks to the Seoul Series, but make no mistake: This is Opening Day.

Thursday will officially open up the season, with most of the 30 teams in action β€” but not all, as several teams announced weather-related postponements. Still, there will be shortage of excitement.

Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers will make their stateside debut after playing two games against the Padres in South Korea to begin the 2024 season. But Ohtani won’t be the only new face in a new place.

Juan Soto will slot into a lineup with Aaron Judge and the Yankees as they face the Astros. And in Baltimore, Corbin Burnes will make his Oriole debut after an offseason trade from the Brewers.

In the primetime slot, the reigning champion Rangers will face off against the Cubs. That game should have no shortage of excitement as Wyatt Langford makes his MLB debut for Texas alongside stars Corey Seager and Evan Carter, while the Cubs will bring back Cody Bellinger to a lineup is taking aim at an NL Central title.

5:47 p.m.: The Angles get a pair back on a throwing error from Jorge Mateo, scoring Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel in the top of the eighth.

5:05 p.m.: Mountcastle lifts a fly ball to right to score Mateo from third. The rout is on as the Orioles move to an 8-1 advantage.

4:01 p.m.: Hays singles to the hole in short to put runners on first and second, and Sandoval’s start is over. Jose Suarez will replace him on the mound.

3:55 p.m.: Now Mountcastle flips a base hit into shallow right to put runners on the corners. This Orioles lineup is cooking early.

First pitch should be fired in Charm City in about an hour.

1:15 p.m.: Here’s a look at the two lineups ahead of Los Angeles and Baltimore’s opening-day clash. Patrick Sandoval takes the ball for the Halos, while Corbin Burnes starts his first career game in Orioles’ colors.

11:30 a.m.: There’s no guarantee Thursday’s scheduled contest between the Angels and Orioles will go on as scheduled. There’s plenty of inclement weather swirling around Charm City ahead of the game’s scheduled 3:05 p.m. ET first pitch. For what it’s worth, it appears that such conditions should taper off as the day wears on. But certainly bears noting.

11:00 a.m.: The Orioles will hold a minute of silence for the six migrant construction workers presumed dead after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in Baltimore, per reports.
